Sydney MCS held an information session at our Chatswood office in collaboration with Thrive Refugee Enterprise for the Ukrainian community. The session focused on opportunities to start and grow a small business for new arrival migrants, including business support and finance loans to help them get started. Also, Thrive shared information about their special support for women " She Starts with Thrive", a program to help refugee women start their own business or find employment.

It was an engaging and informative session, providing participants with valuable information. Thank you to Thrive Refugee Enterprise and everyone who joined this session.

Law, Safety and Support for Our Community

On 6 October 2026, Sydney Multicultural Community Services successfully hosted a free community information session in collaboration with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice NSW Department of Communities and Justice and NSW Police Force.

The session provided valuable information about legal rights, community safety and available support services, while encouraging stronger connections between multicultural communities and local services.

A big thank you to our guest speakers, participants and everyone who contributed to making this event a success!

Discovering Sydney: Culture, History and Community

On 29 September 2026, Sydney Multicultural Community Services’ Settlement (SETS) program organised an orientation outing to the State Library of NSW, NSW Parliament House and the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

The outing was organised as an introductory visit designed to help new arrivals explore their city and learn about important landmarks and services that support their settlement journey.

Haneen Alsammak, a SETS case worker who supports new arrivals, with a particular focus on the Palestinian community, said, “These tours give new arrivals an opportunity to discover Sydney’s historical, cultural and community places, learn about available services and feel more connected to their new home".

“They also create opportunities to meet others, explore different cultures and build a sense of belonging within the Australian community.”

Through these outings, the SETS program continues to support new arrivals to build confidence, make connections and participate in community life.

🌊 Water Safety Education Session at Coogee Beach 🏖️

Last week Sydney MCS joined Coogee Surf Life Saving Club, Randwick Council, and Maroubra Police, for an informative and engaging water safety education session.

Participants built their knowledge and confidence around beach safety, including understanding rips and currents, swimming between the flags, beach safety signs, and the important role of lifeguards and surf lifesavers.

The group also enjoyed a guided tour of the beautiful Coogee Beach and rock pools, making it a wonderful opportunity to learn, connect and enjoy our local coastline.

A big thank you to Coogee Surf Life Saving Club, Randwick Council and Maroubra Police for helping our community stay informed and safe around the water! 🌊💙

Sydney MCS recently celebrated the completion of our second Art for Wellbeing program, held at our St Peters office.

The program provided a welcoming space for women from diverse cultural backgrounds, particularly those experiencing social isolation or limited English, to connect, express themselves and build confidence through art.

We are incredibly proud of the growth, friendships and sense of belonging that developed throughout the program and thank all participants for bringing their creativity, openness and enthusiasm each week. We would also like to thank our Art Therapist Maria Rosa Casanova for her creativity, care, and expertise in facilitating this program.

A special thank you to Inner West Council for funding this wonderful program and supporting opportunities that promote wellbeing, connection and social inclusion within our diverse community.

Sydney MCS recently held a women's health education session delivered by The Water Well Project at our office in Daceyville. The session was engaging and informative, and provided participants with valuable information about women's health, health screening, menopause, healthy eating, and nutrition. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and speak with a doctor in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Following the multicultural health week and women's health week this month, a health information session was held for the Ukrainian community with Ukrainian-speaking General Practitioner (GP) Dr Tetiana Levina.

During the session, Dr Levina spoke about important preventive health check-ups, screening and vaccination in Australia, including recommended cancer screenings, mammograms, women's health and ways to maintain good health.

This was a valuable opportunity for our Ukrainian clients to receive reliable health information, ask questions directly to a doctor, and learn more about disease prevention and available healthcare services in Australia.
