🔉Pacific Motorway M1 Tugun Bypass - resurfacing works🔉

My office has been provided with the following information:

TMR will soon begin resurfacing three kilometres of the M1 Tugun Bypass between Stewart Road (Exit 95) and the NSW border. Site preparation starts in early December, with full construction running from early January to late February 2026 (weather permitting).

Works will take place at night, 8pm–5am Sunday to Thursday, with lane closures and detours in place. Motorists should expect minor delays and allow extra travel time.

This project is separate from the recently completed M1 Varsity Lakes to Tugun upgrade. A flyer will be delivered to local residents with more information.

🅿️Tugun Parking Notice 🅿️

A recent survey of locals residing in and around the Tugun Business precinct has resulted in some parking changes in specified commercial areas being adopted.

The new time-limited parking zones (9am-5pm) will support customer turnover for local businesses and I have worked closely with City officers to make sure the approach is balanced and fair.

There will be a mix of 1 hour, 2 hour and 3 hour parking restrictions, depending on the location.

More importantly, PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT PAID PARKING.

You can view the full details in the map below with colour coded areas showing the different zones. It is expected that new signage will be installed by the end of December.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

🚴Let’s keep our kids safe on e‑bikes and e‑scooters these school holidays. 🚴‍♀️
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) are asking us to help raise awareness about safe use of e‑mobility devices including e‑bikes, e‑scooters and electric motorbikes, to reduce the risk of road incidents, particularly for children and young people.
Please take a moment to read and share the Queensland Government Street Smarts guidance here:
đź”— https://streetsmarts.initiatives.qld.gov.au/electric-bikes/
Key points to note:
• E‑mobility devices are not toys, they’re vehicles and must follow Queensland road safety laws.
• E‑bikes that can exceed 6 km/h under motor power alone (without pedalling) are considered non‑compliant e‑motorcycles and cannot be ridden in public.
• E‑scooters: under 16s require adult supervision, and children under 12 are not legally allowed to operate them at all.
📣Local businesses, schools and clubs - please download and display the safety materials found on the website in prominent locations to help spread the word.
Thanks for helping us create a safer environment for everyone, especially our younger and more vulnerable road users. 🙏

Currumbin Creek Update 🌊

We know how much Currumbin Creek and the Alley mean to our community, this iconic stretch of coastline is part of what makes Currumbin so special.

The southern training wall, built in the 1970s, has protected the coastline and helped shape that famous right-hand wave for over 50 years. After decades of wild weather and heavy swell, it’s time for a well-deserved renewal to ensure it continues protecting the creek entrance and beach for generations to come.

To safely complete the works, vegetation will be removed (some trees will be relocated and replanted nearby) with new native trees and dune plantings to restore and enhance the area once construction is complete. 🌳

We appreciate the community’s patience during this short-term disruption, and the end result will be a stronger, safer and more resilient coastline ready to enjoy well into the future.

This project is part of the City’s Our Coastal Lifestyle Strategy, a long-term plan to protect our beaches, improve access and preserve the Gold Coast lifestyle we all value.

âś… Works start early November
âś… Vegetation will be restored after construction
âś… Improved amenities, beach access and viewing areas

This has come from Kim Walsh Audsley
Kim would love your input.

Hi neighbours, I just received my home and contents insurance renewal with Suncorp and it's over $8000! I assume everyone else is having the same issue with the insurance companies saying we are in a flood zone? I thought maybe I could opt out of the flood cover bit to keep premiums down but this doesn't seem to be an option. Does anyone have any tips/ tricks to get their premiums down? Thanks so much, Kim

Marlin Waters Neighbourhood Watch

What is Marlin Waters Neighbourhood Watch?

We are a community group with two major missions: to reduce and prevent crime in our area and also to improve its amenity. In this regard we communicate closely with our district police, our local councillor and our member of state parliament.

There are 4 zones in our neighbourhood watch- the 3 canal estates, Zone 1 around Bradshaw Drive, Zone 2 around Mainsail Street and Zone 3 around Whitsunday Drive, while Zone 4 is the area between Michel Drive and Currumbin Creek Road. Our neighbourhood watch is area is designated Coolangatta 6 of the Coolangatta Police District. We have a network of coordinators preferably with a block coordinator in each street and a zone coordinator for each zone. Then there is the area coordinator who oversees the whole show.
