HOW TO NOTIFY US OF YOUR PLANNED BURN 🔥

1. Notify the NSW Rural Fire Service
Visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify at least 24 hours before your planned burn and complete the online notification form.
You'll need to provide:
• Your name and contact details
• The property address where the burn will take place
• Your planned start date and expected end date
• The purpose of the burn (e.g. pile burn, stubble burn, agricultural burn, land clearing, hazard reduction, etc.)
⚠️ Please read and accept all conditions before submitting your notification.

✅ 2. Notify Your Neighbours
At least 24 hours before your burn, notify all adjoining landholders, including neighbours across the road.

✅ 3. Check Conditions Before You Burn
Before lighting your fire, check the latest weather forecast and Fire Danger Rating to ensure conditions are safe and suitable.

When it comes to Hydrants, there is the Good, the bad, and the downright ugly!

Out of the 3 hydrants pictured, how many can you clearly identify as a hydrant?

Now imagine you are looking for any of these at 2am in the pitch dark and there is a house on fire.

These are actual photos taken around town here in Cumnock.

The top left photo shows one of the best maintained hydrants – clear of debris, and easy to find. That is what we want to see.

For the bottom photos– yes there is a hydrant under there – somewhere!

Hydrants are our main source of water for our Fire Trucks and ensuring we have a continuous water supply when we are attending a house or building fire here in Cumnock. Having to dig around trying to find these hydrants wastes valuable time we cannot afford to lose.

Help us to help you and your neighbours.

Have a look around the front of your property for your nearest hydrant. Please ensure it is not covered by dirt, leaves, weeds or any other vegetation. When you are out on the mower or whipper snipper, do a quick bit of weeding or edging around it and sweep off any dirt. Remember, the hydrant may not be directly outside your home or other building, Generally they are spaced about 60-100 metres apart so have a look around – it may be on a vacant block next to yours, or even across the road.

These essential assets need to be marked clearly, so if you know of one that its quite faded, or the yellow paint has disappeared completely, let us know and we will arrange for it to be repainted or repaired.

Last night, we welcomed the crew from the Springside Rural Fire Brigade, who came out to Cumnock to demonstrate the use of Breathing Apparatus (BA) equipment.

Springside is one of a few brigades in the Canobolas district that have BA capabilities that are used in structural fires, motor vehicle accidents etc. These brigades may be called upon to support Brigades such as ours in these type of incidents.

It was a great opportunity to see the use of this equipment and how we would work alongside them responding to various incidents.

Thanks to the Springside crew for visiting us, and we look forward to future joint training events with you. These joint brigade training sessions are a great opportunity to share and exchange ideas and learn from each other.

If this sparks your interest, now is the perfect time to get involved. We’re looking for motivated locals to join our ranks, train up, and be ready to support the community when it counts.

Whether you’re interested in firefighting, operational support, or behind the scenes roles like catering, we’ll provide the training, the gear, and the camaraderie. You don’t need experience—just the right attitude and a willingness to be part of a team

Fire hydrants are a vital resource for firefighters when they need access to water during a fire.

It’s important to keep hydrants clear of grass, debris or other obstructions so they can be accessed quickly in an emergency.

Do you know where your closest hydrant is? Take a moment to look around outside and see if you can spot it. In residential areas, hydrants are typically located beside the road or footpath and are usually spaced every 100 metres.

CUMNOCK RFB AGM

The AGM of the Cumnock RFB was held on 10 June on a cool and wet evening. The BBQ beforehand was enjoyed by all. Thanks to everyone for attending.
