What a great time we had at the Culburra Beach Bowlo on Sunday, joining our community in celebrating the Bowlo's 60th birthday!

Were you and your family there?

Last Monday we were asked by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) to assist them in the search for an entangled whale south of Kiama.

Our skipper and crew set out onboard our rescue vessel Shoalhaven 30, with five NPWS personnel on board in less than ideal conditions. Unfortunately as the conditions worsened, we returned to base without having located the whale.

While Marine Rescue Shoalhaven has a mandate of saving human lives at sea, occaisonally when volunteers and resources are available we are able to assist other organisations, in this case the NPWS, search for injured wildlife.

Will you join us in congratulating Rhys W for this outstanding achievement.

Rhys is a senior crew member on our rescue vessels, and has just achieved 20 years of dedicated service to our community and our unit. He is a volunteer who is saving lives on the water, and we are so grateful for his service.

Rhys was awarded for his 20 service by our unit commander, James and deputy unit commanders Craig and Mike at our unit meeting last week.

Our radio operators, man the radios, log boaters on and off, and are the first point of contact when a boater faces an emergency. Enjoying the views from the crew shed, is one of the benefits of what they do.
