Congratulations to everyone who competed last night in our Humorous and Table Topics contests!

Nine members took part in the humorous competition, regaling the judges with their stories, often revealing some embarrassing moments or questionable decisions!

This week we have twelve club members looking to bring their A-game as they vie for first place in our 2026 Table Topics Contest. And nine club members will be trying to make the judges laugh until their faces hurt when they take on the Humorous Contest. 🏆🎤🗣

Some of our contestants have only joined our Club in the last few months and some are yet to complete an icebreaker speech at a regular club meeting! No matter who takes out the titles, we are proud to have so many members looking to challenge themselves, build their speaking experience and make others laugh.

✋ The Other Hand 🤚

Last week our club member Liz shared a powerful activity with us as part of her speech, The Other Hand. She asked us to write or draw something that we want more of in our lives. We were then invited to turn over the page and write or draw the same thing using ‘the other hand’ — our non-dominant hand. The results were varied!

Liz invited us to notice that although the two pages might not look quite the same, the meaning isn’t lost.

💡It was a simple but powerful reminder that we often approach the challenges in our lives through familiar or dominant narratives. Trying another way of seeing or responding can feel unfamiliar and uncomfortable — just like writing with the other hand.

💡 Don’t worry about perfection… choose growth. Be curious about different perspectives, and remember that sometimes growth can feel uncomfortable. That doesn’t mean we can’t do it.

Last night was a great meeting with many club members contributing to the meeting.

Our Toastmaster for the Night, Monica, guided us through the theme “joy in the journey” and Grammarian Latifa challenged us to incorporate the word “nostalgic” into our speaking.

Our prepared speeches from Rom, Felix and Lizzie each gave us something to think about.

⭐️ Special mention to Felix for delivering his ice breaker speech in his second meeting AND winning speech of the night! 👏👏

Christmas in July came to Croydon last night with most members finding themselves on the nice list, and only a few on the naughty list!

We had tricky table topics, enlightening speeches, illuminating evaluations and a festive feast! Not to mention lots of laughter 😆

Last night four visitors came to see what it’s all about… why not join us next meeting for our Speech-a-thon?

🤝 Club Changeover 2026 🎉

We had a great night last week, thanking the outgoing committee members and welcoming those new to the committee for 2026-27.

Good food and drinks, friendships, laughter, memories, celebrating one another’s achievements in the past year… with a game or two thrown in.
