ACCESS TO SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS HAS CHANGED.
What’s changed?
Since 10 December 2025, new rules mean people under 16 can’t hold accounts on some social media platforms — while still staying connected in other ways.
What we’re seeing so far
These changes are helping reduce exposure to harmful content and limiting features that make it harder to switch off. The focus remains on supporting young people’s health and wellbeing.
Why it matters
Delaying access is already starting to shift social norms — giving young people more time to understand the risks and build healthier habits around social media.
