"Australian studies have found people who are homeless died an average of 22 to 33 years younger than those who are housed. We see the vulnerability of people in streets, tents and in their cars every day and night.

Micah Projects staff, including nurses, support people with terminal cancer, serious wounds, recent surgeries, and more than 50 elderly people who are sleeping rough."

🏠 Housing is a human right — but right now, it’s out of reach for far too many.

In Queensland, more than 52,000 people are on the social housing waitlist.
The average wait time? 2.5 years.
Over half are already homeless when they apply.
Last year, only 5,266 households were housed.

In the South Burnett, fewer than 35 rental properties are available right now.
We currently have 168 people linked to our housing team, seeking support.
Some are families with children.
Some are working, but sleeping in cars or tents.

💔 People are paying 60–90% of their income on rent — far above the recommended 30%.
💔 Some are escaping violence, coping with illness, or grieving sudden loss.
💔 Many have nowhere to cook, shower, or safely store their belongings.

This isn’t just a housing issue — it’s a dignity issue.
It’s not just a crisis — it’s a failure of systems.

And it’s not just happening elsewhere.
It’s here. It’s real. And it’s growing.

We need:
✅ More affordable homes
✅ More crisis and transitional options
✅ More support for people trying to navigate complex systems
✅ More understanding — that poverty, trauma, or bad luck shouldn't cost you your home

Let’s stop pretending this is someone else’s problem.
Let’s start treating housing like the human right it is.
