Around the patch
What a difference a little cooler weather has made to the patch.
The Community Garden is still producing lots of leafy greens and a few late raspberries and tomatoes.
We held our AGM recently and reflected on another successful 12 months.
One of the highlights being open for the Crookwell Open Garden’s Festival with many visitors, locally and from away, visiting the patch.
This Sunday April 12 is our next working bee, from 10am.
We invite anyone who is interested in gardening to come along and share morning tea with our group and a few light chores around the patch.
We will be focusing on preparing and feeding our soil and planting winter vegetables. The garden beds have been pruned, fertilized and mulched ready for this.
In Autumn you can continue to plant lettuce varieties, spinach and kale, herbs like parsley, sage and thyme, the allium and brassica families, root crops like carrots, radish, beetroot, swede and parsnips. Broad bean seeds can also be planted as the soil is still warm enough for germination. A handy tip to protect your seedlings from Cabbage White Butterflies (Pieris rapae) is to cover with old lace curtains.
The garden is operated by volunteers from our community who plant, water and maintain the patch. We need more helpers if you are keen!
If you visit and harvest produce, please remember to give a donation in one of the honesty boxes provided. These donations help us replant more produce for all to enjoy.
Also remember to only pick what you can use and leave some to share with others!
