We're thrilled to congratulate Bec Angus and our Vice Club Captain Nathan Lovett on successfully completing their Silver Medallion Patrol Captain (SMPC) award.
The SMPC is one of the longest and most demanding courses in surf lifesaving, and for good reason. It goes well beyond the rescue skills our members build through their Bronze and advanced awards. It's designed to develop the leadership, judgement and people-management skills needed to take charge of a patrol and everyone on it.
Throughout the course, candidates work through patrol planning and management, risk assessment and hazard identification, incident and emergency management, communication with other services and agencies, and the day-to-day leadership of a patrol team. They're challenged to make sound decisions under pressure, look after their members' welfare, and keep the beach safe for the thousands of people who visit each season.
Being entrusted to run a surf lifesaving patrol is a real milestone. It means the club, your fellow members and the community are placing their trust in you to lead from the front, set the standard, and bring everyone home safely at the end of the day. It's a responsibility that reflects the commitment, experience and character you've both shown over many seasons on the sand and in the water.
A big thank you also to the facilitators who gave up their time to deliver this course. Programs like the SMPC don't happen without volunteers willing to share their knowledge and mentor our future leaders.
