Since we started our endeavour on bringing the Old Cromer School back to use, we have been collecting little bits of history. There's still a lot of holes in the tiime line, and barely any images unfortunately. However there was a lot found in Trove in the year of 1928. We feel this is probably likely because a particular member of the committee at the time was very diligent in writing articles and sending to the paper. But amongst the surprise birthdays, farewells, meetings, Christmas gatherings and fancy dress dances, there is this one, entitled COUNTRY GAIETIES, published in The Register Adelaide Saturday 1st December 1928.
Here is the transcription of the image, as best as can be obtained, but does this mean there were a total of 30 adults, and perhaps 37 younger persons all at the school at the same time?
All I can say is we have to get better for our social get togethers!
The Cromer cricketers held a successful ball in the Cromer Hall on Saturday evening, November 24. There was an excellent attendance, and in the intervals of dancing humorous recitations were given by Messrs. Randall and O’Dea. Mr. J. Cahill was M.C., and music was played by Messrs H. F. Mueller, M. Scales, and M. Rich. Supper was served. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Bryant, Mr. and Mrs. R. Wegener, Mr and Mrs H. F. Mueller, Mr. and Mrs. F Miles, Mr and Mrs. M. Scales, Mr and Mrs. E. Wegener, Mr. and Mrs. Max Rich, Mr. and Mrs. F. E Vivian, Mr. and Mrs. R. Noblett, Mr. and Mrs. T O’Dea, Mesdames Pollett and H. Rich, Misses White, N. Hissey.
