What an amazing weekend celebrating 75 years of Scouting in Creswick! Originally starting in 1909 but running continously since 1950, there has a been some great people supporting the group and keeping it running over this period. This weekend definitely showed us there is still a fantastic support network in the Creswick and District community.
A small sub committee was formed to organise the weekends events and spent a few months planning things even while some members were off on overseas holidays and breaking bones! Life member Neville Cartledge and District Committee Chair Robyn Ashmore were instrumental in getting this off the ground and were supported by Denise Fordham and Sandra Lewis along with Leaders Rowena Miller, Neil Hunt & Simon Miller. A shoutout also to Katrina McMahon, Dave Norris Greg Atterbury for your input during this planning stage.
A Saturday night dinner was held at The American Creswick, where Brendan, Millie and the team went above and beyond to accomodate us and ensure we had a fantastic night with delicious food and faultless service! Past and present members and supporters of the Creswick Scout Group attended and reminisced about the building of the hall on North Parade and the groups adventures over the years
Thanks to Neville for compiling a historic report on the Creswick Group and supplying some memorabilia on display, Neil Hunt and daughter Greta who delivered the report and Robyn for assembling an amazing slide show with photos from the last 75 years cycling on the big screen as guests dined. Chief Scout and Actor Shane Jacobson sent in a special message of congratulations and a couple of people said a few words including our Mayor, Councillor Don Henderson.
Sundays birthday party was a huge success with guests treated to a sausage sizzle and drinks courtesy of The Creswick Lions Club, Coffee from Coffee Van Beek and the biggest, yummiest cookies weve ever seen by and Sunshine! Creswick Cougars Soccer Club provided some soccer skills activities, while the Creswick Brass Band played amazing tunes. Bradley Pryor from Ballarat District Scouts setup a pioneering merry go round style swing which entertained kids. Showbags were available while other stalls included craft activities with Charlie and Asher Fordham, badge sewing with Brendan 'Wombat' Muller, plant sale courtesy of Verena Doyle and Robyn Ashmore and a floating flagpole with Neil Hunt.
Great to see some of our higher ranking Regional Leaders attend, Adrian Newman, Ken and Toni McMahon, thanks for making the trip out!
During this time Raffle tickets were being sold with donations from local businesses as prizes. Congratulations to Atterbury for winning the epic hamper donated by one of our awesome supporters, IGA Creswick.
