What an incredible day we had on Sunday! 🌞
We couldn't have asked for better weather for the official launch of the new interpretative signage at the New Australasian No.2 Mine Site.
After a bit of nervous forecast-watching in the lead-up, we truly lucked out with a beautiful, clear Sunday.
It was such a special thing to see our community gather together at this significant site, commemorating the miners lost in the 1882 disaster and sharing history from the broader Buried Rivers of Gold trail, we pass a special thank-you to both Robt Haughie and The Creswick Historical Society for providing such amazing sources of information on the day.
The morning was spent hearing from some of the miners' descendants, The Hepburn Shire Mayor Tony Clark, Janine from communitybank_creswick, Phil the official Town Crier and both past and present Creswick Connect members, alongside beautiful performances from the Creswick Chorus and Creswick Brass Band. Combined with refreshments from the happyscrapskitchen team it all made for a truly moving morning.
As Uncle Jason from djadjawurrung so beautifully put it on the day “We need to walk together, side by side.” A sentiment that captured exactly what this project has been about from the start. Connecting stories, preserving history.
If you missed Sunday, the site featuring beautiful new signage by Robt Haughie is open for you to visit any time. It's also the starting point of the Buried Rivers of Gold Trail, a self-guided journey through the region's remarkable deep lead gold mining history. Well worth the trip.
