After a successful cleanup earlier in the year of over 14,000 Northern Pacific Seastar it’s time to do it again.
We’re trying a new approach which will make this a family event.
Firstly we will jump in at Honeywood Drive an hour after high tide on Sunday 3rd of December at 1:30pm and with the support of Surfrider foundation Tasmania and the Tasmanian Oyster Co.
We will drift out with the tide on the surface whilst checking the bottom for Seastar, once spotted a support craft will drop a marker buoy which scuba divers can locate later in the day.
It is very important that everyone is positively buoyant and that everyone under the age of 16 has an accompanying adult with them.
A First Aid team will be present in case of an emergency and a head count and name registration before and after is mandatory.
Mast will be notified and all precautions will be taken to navigate boat traffic, this is an opportunity for kayaks to assist in marking swimmers positions to oncoming boats.
There is still an opportunity for people unable to enter the water to help out counting and weighing Seastar later in the day.
There will be a BBQ and soup available on finishing as well as the opportunity to assist Scuba Divers land Seastar.
We are making a positive impact on the biodiversity of Cremorne waters and welcome any volunteers who would like to help
Looking forward to seeing you
