Over the past few weeks, members of EWB UWAโs Local Partnerships & Initiatives (LPI) team came together to support CARAD through a bake sale and a donation of essential food and household supplies. Our bake sale was a brilliant success, and weโre so grateful to everyone at UWA who stopped by, grabbed a treat and helped us support such an important cause. ๐ช
For those who donโt know, Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees & Detainees (Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees) is Perthโs only organisation supporting people seeking asylum with essential needs including food, shelter and healthcare, with no time limits. Since 2000, CARAD has supported more than 5,000 refugees, asylum seekers and detainees across WA, helping fill the gaps where other services cannot.
Using the proceeds from the bake sale, our LPI team donated a car boot packed with essential supplies, including food, milk, cleaning products, personal care items and other household necessities. These donations will help stock CARADโs community pantry, which supports more than 125 people every week through community donations alone.
Weโre incredibly proud of our LPI team and coordinators for making this initiative happen, and grateful to everyone who contributed, stopped by our bake sale or supported us along the way. It was a great reminder of what we can achieve when we come together as a community. ๐
