There were a few people that wanted to argue that Cowra Railway Station is open to the public.
This is not the case. Neither the carpark or the platform are public places. Particularly at Cowra. It is all leased by a volunteer organisation. It is in the contract.
It is a cying shame that people think they know more than the lessee of the Station.
I will delete any negative comments instantly.
Below is the official TfNSW information on Railay Stations
Unused NSW railway station platforms are generally not open to the public. While some platforms, like those at Central Station, have been repurposed for other uses like communications rooms or have been opened for special events like Sydney Open, they are not typically accessible for general public use. Access to these areas is usually restricted due to safety and security reasons.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
Restricted Access:
Unused platforms are often not maintained for public access and may pose safety hazards due to their condition or lack of proper amenities.
Repurposing:
Some platforms have been repurposed for other uses, such as the platforms at Central Station which are now used for communications and power rooms to support the Sydney Metro.
Special Events:
Certain platforms, like the ghost platforms at Central Station, are sometimes opened to the public during events like Sydney Open, but this is a temporary and controlled access.
Tourism Potential:
There is a growing recognition of the tourism potential of these spaces, with some suggesting they could be transformed into bars, restaurants, or other attractions. However, this would require significant investment and modifications to ensure public safety and access.
Example: Central Station:
Central Station's platforms 26 and 27, which were built for the Eastern Suburbs Railway but never completed, are a prime example. They have been used for communications and power rooms, and were opened for tours during Sydney Open.
