Thanks to our members Mel, Kate & Tony for doing our Pre-ride today for our next end of month Ride on the 31st May out at a working sheep & Cattle property on Binni Creek Road Woodstock/Cowra.
We will be riding through paddocks with sheep and cattle that are totally used to horses with a few hills and creek crossings with water. There will be water troughs available at our floats for our thirsty Steeds.
After the ride at $10 per person, lunch will be provided for those who love a good quiche or soup.
Please RSVP Kate Lofthouse on 0427827758 by TEXT MESSAGE ONLY Thursday 28th if you wish to ride. The ride will be roughly 2 hour ride and riders from other athra clubs are welcome to attend so PLEASE let contact person know so you can get further information regarding the ride.
Also a big shout out to Kate Lofthouse it’s good to see you back in the saddle 👏🏻 👏🏻.

Cooler weather can equal impaction season!!!

It is not uncommon to see an increase incidence of impactions in late autumn and winter likely due to decreased water intake.

Sometimes sand impactions cannot be corrected with drenching alone. This horse unfortunately developed a secondary displacement of his large bowel and required emergency surgery on Sunday evening. When a section of the intestine becomes overly heavy, it can easily move out of place. If drenching is not resolving an impaction within 24-48hrs or we become aware that the intestine has displaced (by ultrasound) then surgery is required.

Some tips to help reduce the chances of impactions is to feed psyllium periodically if you have sandy or gravely soil, wet down your horses feed if they are not good drinkers and make sure they have enough salt in their diet especially as they adjust to the cooler weather. You can also add oils to their diet depending on their current weight.

End of Month Bumbaldry Ride!

Beautiful weather for our ride today🌞

We had 9 riders 👏🏻
Once all the horses settled down they all enjoyed the stunning bushland and perfect trail conditions. After the ride the horse were taken care of and then the riders headed to the shack for homemade country style stew + damper to finish. Big thanks to Mel & Ben for hosting and cooking, and Mel & Kate for the photos!
Happy Trails,
See you all next month 🤠
