SES Phillip Island Unit

SES Phillip Island Unit The Phillip Island SES is an emergency service made up entirely of volunteers on call 24/7 respondin Everyone can find their niche in an SES Unit.

We meet every Wednesday night for training at 19:00 at LHQ located 127 Settlement Rd Cowes, next to CFA. There are roles for active people who like emergency operations and there are equally important roles for people who want to support the Unit with equipment maintenance, fund raising and education. As an SES volunteer, you don’t have to be available all day every day. If you work full-time, volunteering with the SES can be an after hours interest. If you’re at home with school-aged children, the best times for you to volunteer may be during school hours when the kids are off your hands. You might like looking after the equipment – cleaning the vehicles or keeping the chainsaws ready for action. Those with the gift of the gab might try radio communications or media relations. Some have a flare with children and can help in school and kindergarten visits. Others just love to get on the truck and get going. Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, make friends and contribute to your local community. You'll get accredited training, confidence and a new lease on life.

A strong cold front is expected to move across Victoria this weekend, with the worst conditions forecast from Sunday into Monday, bringing widespread rain, strong winds and the potential for localised flooding.

VICSES is urging Victorians to prepare now by:

• Securing loose outdoor items.
• Clearing gutters and drains.
• Staying up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings through the VicEmergency app.
• Avoiding unnecessary travel during severe weather where possible &
• Avoid parking under trees.

For emergency assistance due to storms or floods, call SES on 132 500.

From Wednesday through to Friday this week some possible severe weather will impact Victoria, including Bass Coast and South Gippsland. A reminder to be safe on wet and slippery roads, secure loose objects around your home and watch for large waves and hightides on our coastline. Maybe give rock fishing a miss this week. Stay safe out there.

With wet and windy weather anticipated throughout this first week of school holidays, community members are urged to stay vigilant around their flood and storm risk, particularly if travelling away from home.

Significant rainfall is forecast across parts of the state over the coming days, which could see river rises and the potential for flash flooding in some areas.

If camping these holidays, avoid parking or establishing your campsite underneath trees, in low-lying areas near rivers and streams, as water levels may rise quickly and without warning.

Community members can stay safe by allowing additional time when travelling, driving to the conditions and never entering floodwater.

To stay up-to-date with any warnings, download the VicEmergency app and establish a personal watch zone for your immediate area. If you require SES emergency assistance, call 132 500.

🚨 Community Notice – CFA Training Exercise 🚨

Residents may notice emergency service activity in the area of the “Old Fire Station” and SES building on Tuesday 2nd June from approximately 7:00pm.

Members of Phillip Island CFA will be conducting a planned training exercise as part of our ongoing skills development and operational readiness program.
During this time, you may see fire trucks, firefighters in protective clothing, hoses, lighting, and simulated emergency response activities.

There is no cause for concern, as this is a scheduled training event designed to help our volunteers maintain and strengthen the skills needed to respond to emergencies within our community.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue training to keep Phillip Island safe.

Today marks the start of National Road Safety Week. This year's theme is 'Pledge to Drive so Others Survive', giving us all an opportunity to make sure we're looking out for each other on the roads.

To start the week, it is important to remember the 1,300 lives lost on Australian roads each year. Over 40,000 people are also injured each year on our roads.

All road users have a small but important role to play in helping to reduce lives lost and injuries.

Emergency services have a vital role in responding to accidents, saving lives and making sure road users are driving safely. Shout out to the following Victorian emergency services that respond to incidents and proactively keep us safe:

CFA (Country Fire Authority)
Fire Rescue Victoria
Victoria State Emergency Service
Ambulance Victoria
Victoria Police
Echuca Moama Search & Rescue Squad
Shepparton Search and Rescue Squad

Not your average call-out for the crew today 🚨🌳🐝

We were tasked with a fallen tree blocking the road — pretty standard for us. But this one came with a twist… it was home to a very active colony of bees.

Safety comes first, for both our volunteers and the environment, so this job turned into a coordinated effort rather than a quick clear, thanks to the help of a local beekeeper who helped relocate the hive.

A good reminder that no two jobs are ever the same, and sometimes nature has its own plans.

Big thanks to the team for adapting on the fly and handling a tricky situation professionally 👏
