Health Access Sumbawa’s most important mission:
I wanted to share some exciting news about Health Access Sumbawa (HAS), our non-profit organization dedicated to improving health in remote communities on Sumbawa Island, Indonesia. We’ve already made a huge impact by eliminating malaria from Tarano county, and now we’re in the middle of a project to extend this success to the remaining twenty-three counties in Sumbawa. To accomplish this, we have partnered with the Health Department. In December 2023, HAS offered to buy and hang 7,000 Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Bed nets (LLIN) over 3 years (2024-2026). With your generous help, last year we installed 2,800 nets. We are on our way to our goal!
The link below is a 5-minute video which shows the HAS team as they hang nets in some of the most remote, malaria endemic villages in Sumbawa. It’s an adventure story; I can tell you! 😊

Malaria is a serious issue here, causing anemia in pregnant women, stunted growth in children, and even death among infants and healthy teens. It’s preventable, but it still affects many people because there is no vaccine.
Eliminating malaria from remote communities is our strength. It’s the primary mission of HAS. The 23 counties we are targeting have a population of 500,000. To be successful, we need to hang thousands of treated bed nets in the most malaria-endemic villages. Our goal for 2025 is another 2,800 nets. Same as last year. Which means we need to raise as much money this year as we did last. The nets are made-to-order for HAS in Vietnam. We must place our 2025 order soon in order to have the nets by October, when we start hanging nets again.
