Visit Upper Murray

Visit Upper Murray Explore North East Victoria at the base of the Snowy Mountains, with scenic valleys, mountains, the clear waters of the Murray River, and more.

Welcome to the official page for Visit Upper Murray. Here in the heart of the high country, where the Murray River begins, is the source of the life that has shaped so many industries, communities and picture book landscapes since the dawn of time. The Upper Murray a wellspring, untouched in many ways by modern life. From fishing in its pristine waters to riding along the banks on horseback in the

tradition of the Man From Snowy River, this place is a place of long lost adventure ready to be rediscovered. And with such a fertile setting of lush farming fields, it's also a place of delicious produce and towns built on the back of rich agricultural history and a deep respect for the land which sustains them. Where Banjo Paterson once found inspiration, today's experience-hungry holiday makers and tree-changing families are also discovering the appeal of a traditional Australian bush life and the natural advantages that this ancient land holds. No longer a secret - the stories, the tastes and the experiences are finally finding their way to the wider world. More and more visitors are winding their way from town to charming town, soaking in the clean air, big skies, breathtaking mountain views and time spent in the great outdoors. The Upper Murray is more than the origin of the river. This is also the starting place for new stories and the word has passed around.

Today, visitors can explore the valley by car, bike or on foot, taking in rolling farmland, mountain views and the peaceful beauty of the Thowgla Creek. It also hosts the epic Run Upper Murray (RUM), a trail run tackling Mt Elliot.

Popular with trout fishers, the river offers a quiet escape, while nearby Grays and Bullocky's Campgrounds provide the perfect base for a nature-filled getaway.

At the heart of the community sits the beautifully refurbished Thowgla Hall, a much-loved venue that continues to bring people together for weddings, family reunions, celebrations and community events.
