βοΈ SunSmart Reminders for Families! βοΈ
In collaboration with the REED Corrigin team and children, during a recent REED Management visit, we reflected on the importance of sun safety in our setting. Together, weβre committed to building healthy habits that protect children while they enjoy the outdoors.
Here are 5 easy SunSmart steps to follow:
π SLIP on covering clothing
Dress your child in clothes that cover as much skin as possible β think elbow-length tops, longer shorts or skirts, and densely woven fabrics.
𧴠SLOP on SPF 30+ sunscreen
Apply sunscreen before arriving and ensure permission is given for reapplication during the day. From age 3, children are encouraged to start learning to apply it themselves with support.
π SLAP on a sun-safe hat
Choose wide-brimmed, bucket, or legionnaire-style hats that protect the face, neck, and ears. Please label and keep a sun hat at the service for daily outdoor play β and have an extra one for home too!
π³ SEEK shade
We always look for shady spaces for outdoor play. Encourage this habit at home and when out and about.
πΆοΈ SLIDE on wrap-around sunglasses
If practical, sunglasses that meet AS1067 standards can help protect your childβs eyes from UV rays.
β
Letβs continue working together to keep children safe, confident, and sun smart every day.
