Mary's son needed a laptop for school. Phil's car registration was due. Elena needed a new fridge. Sara had to move and needed support with bond money and furniture.
When unexpected essential costs arise, many people look for safe and affordable options.
Good Shepherd's community partners offer No Interest Loans (NILS) – a not-for-profit scheme that provides access to responsible, affordable credit for essential needs.
With NILS, there is no interest and no fees or charges. Loans up to $2,000 are available for essentials only, with repayments spread over 24 months (for a $2,000 loan, that's around $42 per fortnight, depending on your circumstances).
We work with you to create a realistic budget and only lend what you can comfortably afford to repay.
Unlike some 'buy now pay later' options, payday lenders or pawn shops that can come with high costs, NILS is designed to help you avoid getting into further debt. You repay exactly what you borrow – and that money then helps others in the community.
Eligible items include things like a washing machine, phone, medical expenses, car repairs, furniture, or a bike. Not for regular bills, existing debt, or cash advances.
If you're facing an essential expense and would like to explore your options, message us now to learn more and find out if you’re eligible.
