Today our Red Rocks Coastcare volunteers worked to reduce the impact of a prolific w**d of many names. Whether you know it as Angled Onion, Three-cornered Leek, or Three-cornered Garlic, chances are that you dislike this environmental w**d with its distinctive smell and ability to take over areas of our foreshore vegetation and gardens.

Volunteers assisted coordinator John Eddy in removing the "onion w**d" from the fire access track along the Red Rocks foreshore. John demonstrated effective removal techniques, such as removing the swollen flower heads to limit seed dispersal across larger areas of infestation. In smaller areas, volunteers hand pulled the w**d with its bulbs.

Angled Onion (Allium triquetrum), an invasive species originating from the Mediterranean, is characterised by white bell-shaped flowers and a pronounced onion aroma. It invades water courses, roadsides and coastal areas. Residents who find this w**d in their gardens are encouraged to remove it and dispose of it via their green bin. If present in lawns, it should be mown and the clippings placed in the green bin to minimise further spread.
