Mischa Boxsell is studying a Bachelor of Nursing at CSU in Wagga Wagga. She says that “while balancing multiple subjects can be challenging at times, I particularly enjoy my Biomedical and Nursing Simulation classes. I also enjoy learning about the importance of maintaining strong interprofessional and therapeutic relationships with both colleagues and patients, which are essential skills for providing safe and effective care.
I am particularly proud of passing my first OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) exam. During my first few weeks at university, the prospect of completing an OSCE was incredibly daunting, and I doubted my abilities at times. However, after many late nights at the library and countless hours practising blood pressure assessments on my friends (often getting the systolic pressure completely wrong!), I gradually built my confidence and skills. By the time the exam arrived, I felt prepared and capable, and successfully passing it gave me even more motivation and excitement for completing my degree and undertaking future clinical placements.
One thing I have found particularly interesting throughout my studies is learning how many systems within the human body work together simultaneously to maintain health and function. Understanding the science behind bodily processes has given me an even greater appreciation for the complexity of healthcare and the role nurses play in supporting patients.
After graduating, I will become a Registered Nurse and my goal is to become a paediatric Nurse. Most importantly, I hope to make a positive difference in the lives of my patients and become a confident and knowledgeable healthcare professional.
My hobbies include art, reading, and dancing for the CSU Dance and Cheer team. I also enjoy spending time with friends. Recently, we attended a pottery class where we created all sorts of pieces. While it was a lot of fun, it's definitely one of the many art forms I still need to work on!
Most weekends I commute back to Cootamundra for work and to spend time with family and friends. The cost of travelling home is considerable, which is why the support provided by CEF has been so valuable. Their assistance has enabled me to continue travelling home regularly, helping me stay connected with my support network while balancing the demands of university life. CEF has also helped me purchase the equipment and resources needed throughout my nursing degree, allowing me to better prepare for clinical placements and future practice. Their support has played a significant role in my journey so far, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities it has provided."
Cootamundra CEF is very proud of Mischa's progress this year and look forward to following her journey towards her goal of becoming a paediatric nurse.
