Cathay Community Association Cathay is the largest Chinese community-owned and operated aged care services provider in Brisbane, servicing over 560 home care clients.

Service to the People, Peace and Prosperity to the Nation! Cathay Community Association was founded in the late 70's by the local Cantonese community to serve as a hub for those who had left the newly independent Papua New Guinea and resettled in and around Brisbane. The community would organise frequent gatherings to allow for the elderly to play mahjong and for the young to play squash or tennis

. This community spirit continues today with various weekly computer, guitar and dance classes, mahjong and taichi groups, badminton and table tennis competitions, as well as gardening and cooking socials. Cathay was incorporated in 1981 to receive government funding to assist the many Vietnamese refugees who were also arriving in Brisbane during that period. Our assistance of new migrants continued well into the new millennium, and over the years Cathay has welcomed those migrants from Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China. As the community matured, Cathay expanded its services to include home care and other aged care assistance to its community. Today, Cathay is the largest Chinese community-owned and operated aged care services provider in Brisbane, boasting over 90 staff and volunteers, and servicing over 530 home care clients. With over 40 continual years of service to the community, Cathay still stands by its motto of "Service to the People, Peace and Prosperity to the Nation".

Cathay Community Association Christmas Dinner 2025!
What a night! Over 260 members, volunteers, staff, and friends came together on 6 December at Landmark Restaurant, Sunnybank Plaza to celebrate the festive season with delicious food, live music, and lots of laughter. Everyone dancing, cheering, and celebrating!

It‘s that time of the year again—Christmas!

Cathay Home Care Service hosted the 2025 Christmas party for our seniors. Come and check out the wonderful moments from our Christmas party!

Everyone enjoyed delicious food, singing, and dancing — having a fantastic time!
The event also featured a table prize and raffle draw, and we hope all the seniors enjoyed their prizes. Seeing our seniors happy and smiling is our most precious Christmas gift.

While photos can only capture some of the beautiful moments, many warm memories couldn’t be fully recorded.

Cathay Home Care Services wishes everyone an early Merry Christmas, filled with joy and love, and hopes you all stay safe and happy!

Are you caring for a loved one?

Behind every person in need of care, there is a heart that gives selflessly.
Cathay Community Association and Wellways collaborated to present “A Wellbeing Workshop” for carers.

The workshop offered practical stress management and self-care strategies, guidance on community services and resources, as well as opportunities for group sharing and connection.
Participants learned, shared, and recharged together — because carers deserve care too!

Participants also had the opportunity to visit Cathay Cottage Respite Centre in Acacia Ridge,
a comfortable and safe space designed to provide carers and their families with a place to rest and relax.
It was a wonderful and well-deserved opportunity for carers to take a break while their loved ones received attentive and professional care.

We hope this workshop offered each carer a brief but meaningful break — a moment to breathe, refresh, recharge, and feel supported.

Do you know about the SaH – Support at Home Program?

Starting from 1 November 2025, Home Care Package (HCP) has been replaced by the Support at Home Program.
To help everyone understand the changes under this new system more clearly, Cathay Home Care organised a free information Yum Cha Information Session ☕️✨

We were truly surprised by the overwhelming response!
The atmosphere was wonderful, and everyone actively engaged and learned more about home care services together — it was truly heart warming 💛

As the number of seats was limited, many people who wanted to join weren’t able to register 😢
But don’t worry! We will continue to hold these sessions regularly, and the next event date will be announced soon.
If you’re interested, remember to stay tuned for our updates, or feel free to message us 💌
