Last night we got the opportunity to attend the 245 Army Cadets training session to talk about our roll as the GLR Rescue Service in Coonabarabran and community and to engage them in some hands on activities. Cadets from Coonabarabran, Coolah & Narrabri were there to try their hand at throwing a throw bag and some patient handling exercises. Thanks guys for giving us this opportunity to showcase our squad.

Five members of the Coonabarabran VRA traveled to the RFS Academy in Dubbo this weekend to gain their Air Base Operator qualification.
The team at the Coona VRA have built a great working relationship with the Castlereagh Zone RFS over the years, mainly at motor vehicle accidents and now that we have 5 members that have completed this specialised training we can now assist them further with Air base operations like marshalling and refilling air tanker water bombers and loading and unloading of helicopters at major fire events in our region.
It’s very important that all agencies can work well together and support each other wherever and whenever we can and the guys at the Coona VRA treasure the great relationship that we have built with the Castlereagh Zone RFS and all the RFS brigades that we work with.

⛔ The Oxley Highway at Goolhi (west of Gunnedah) is closed in both directions between Gunnedah and Coonabarabran due to a truck roll-over.

🚨 Emergency services are at the scene - avoid the area.

🚗All motorists can divert using Newell Highway, Kamilaroi Highway to Boggabri and Grain Valley Road, in both directions.

This diversion is suitable for all vehicles and will add approximately 2hrs 35 mins to your trip time.

Motorists in light vehicles can also consider using Black Stump Way and Purlewaugh Road in both directions.

Community engagement event.
We were invited to attend the Castlereagh Sporting Car Club’s, “Cars & Coffee” event this morning to show off our capability and catch up with car enthusiasts in our community. We also offer a free gain entry to your classic car “our way” if you happen to lock your keys inside, but no one has requested this service as yet 🤷‍♂️🤪

⚠️ Newell Highway is closed in both directions at Borambitty Road just north of Coonabarabran due to a truck crash.

ℹ️ Northbound motorists can use Oxley Highway to Gunnedah, Kamilaroi Highway to Narrabri, and then back onto the Newell Highway. Southbound use the same route in opposite order. This is suitable for all vehicles but adds about 45 mins extra travel time.
