Wasp Creek RFB can be called upon to respond to any other part of the Gold Coast to assist other brigades when required. During times of high fire activity in Queensland, t

he brigade can also be requested to provide crews and/or vehicles to other parts of the state. Throughout Wasp Creek RFB's operational lifetime brigade members have assisted at fires as far north as Townsville, and have also travelled to help crews in New South Wales, as far south as Sydney. Wasp Creek RFB is staffed entirely by highly trained and dedicated volunteers that are on call 24hrs a day, every day of the year. The brigade conducts training every Tuesday evening and every second Sunday morning. Applications for new members are always welcome. 🚀🌊 A busy day on and around the water for our Wasp Creek crews.

Today, members travelled across to our South Stradbroke Island station for training, maintenance and operational readiness activities, ensuring our equipment and crews remain prepared for whatever comes next.

As the only operational firefighting capability based on South Stradbroke Island, maintaining our island station and keeping skills sharp is an important part of supporting both residents and visitors.

The day also included a response to a vessel fire on the Broadwater, with Wasp Creek 88 deployed as part of the emergency response. Incidents like this highlight the unique marine firefighting and emergency response capability our brigade provides across South East Queensland waterways.

From training and maintenance to real-world incident response, today was a great example of the diverse role our volunteers play in protecting the communities we serve.

A huge thank you to all our members who continue to give up their time to train, maintain capability and answer the call when needed πŸ‘πŸ”₯

Yesterday our Wasp Creek crew joined emergency services and agencies from across the region for a fantastic day at Monster Machinery Day on the Gold Coast β˜€οΈπŸš’

It was great spending the day meeting locals, answering questions and giving kids a closer look at the vehicles and equipment used to help keep communities safe.

From fire trucks to heavy machinery, there was no shortage of excitement around Broadwater Parklands πŸ‘

One of the best parts of events like this is the opportunity to connect with the community outside of emergency situations and showcase the teamwork between all the different services that respond when help is needed.

A massive thank you to the organisers, fellow brigades and all the agencies and volunteers who helped make the day such a success.

And to the kids who absolutely loved the trucks and lights yesterday… we hope we inspired a few future emergency services volunteers πŸš¨πŸ˜„

Great to see continued investment into Rural Fire Service Queensland capability across the state πŸ‘πŸ”₯

Large-scale incidents demand more than just fire trucks, and these new support vehicles will play an important role in strengthening operational coordination, logistics and crew support during major emergencies.

From command and control, to transporting personnel and recovering appliances in difficult conditions, these resources help volunteers and firefighters operate safer and more effectively when communities need them most.

A fantastic step forward for RFSQ and the communities we protect across Queensland πŸš’

Today our crews had a great time visiting Coomera State School for a community meet and greet with students and staff πŸš’πŸ˜Š

The students had the chance to get up close to our fire truck, chat with firefighters, learn about fire safety and see some of the equipment we use to help protect our communities across Coomera, South Stradbroke Island and South East Queensland.

Community engagement is such an important part of what we do. Building positive relationships with young people helps create awareness around fire safety, emergency preparedness and the role volunteers play in keeping communities safe.

There were plenty of smiles, lots of great questions and a few future firefighters in the making! πŸ‘

A big thank you to Coomera State School for welcoming our crew today. We always enjoy opportunities to connect with our local community.

What a weekend.

From the 21st to 24th May 2026, our crews had the privilege of attending the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and what an incredible few days it turned out to be.

Across the event, our members spent countless hours engaging with the public, supporting the marine emergency services presence, showcasing our operational capability, and flying the flag for the brigade with pride.

The support from the community was unreal. We met visitors from all over Australia, spoke with future volunteers, connected with fellow emergency services personnel, and shared just how important marine firefighting and on-water response capability is across our region.

There were big crowds, big boats, plenty of sun, and no shortage of laughs along the way.

A huge thank you goes to every member who gave up their time to make this event possible. These events don’t happen without dedicated volunteers willing to put in the hard yards behind the scenes before the gates even open.

And yes... our fire boat definitely stole a bit of attention over the weekend.

Thanks again to everyone who came over for a chat, snapped photos with the crew, or showed support to emergency services personnel throughout the event. We appreciate every bit of it.

Safe to say we’ll be back next year.

Yesterday our crew had the pleasure of spending time with the amazing students and staff at Picnic Creek State School for their Under 8’s Day πŸš’πŸ˜Š

From checking out the truck to getting hands-on with the fire hose, there were plenty of smiles, laughs and future firefighters in the making!

Community engagement is a huge part of what we do at Wasp Creek. Opportunities like this help young people learn about fire safety, emergency services and the important role volunteers play in protecting local communities.

A big thank you to Picnic Creek State School for inviting us along and for presenting our brigade with a Certificate of Appreciation. We’re incredibly grateful for the support and enthusiasm shown by the students, staff and families throughout the day πŸ‘

Safe to say the hose line was definitely the most popular activity! πŸ’¦πŸš’

Our members will be around throughout the event to chat about:
πŸš’ Marine firefighting operations
🌊 Water based emergency response
🚨 Volunteer firefighting with Wasp Creek RFB
🀝 Community safety and preparedness

We’re proud to showcase the important role volunteer brigades play both on land and on the water.

This week’s training night gave our crews the chance to learn from another emergency service and sharpen skills that can make a real difference during serious incidents πŸš‘πŸš’

A big thank you to Jordan from Pimpama QAS for attending our station and running an incredibly valuable trauma and patient care session for our members.

Crews got hands-on experience with:
🩹 Trauma response basics
πŸš‘ Ambulance equipment familiarisation
πŸͺ‘ How chair lifts operate
πŸ› Safe stretcher handling techniques
🏍 Removing a motorcycle helmet safely
🧠 Managing the mental and emotional impacts after difficult incidents

While many people think firefighting is only about hoses and trucks, our crews are often first on scene to a wide range of emergencies across our communities. Training like this helps ensure we can safely support patients, assist paramedics and work effectively alongside other emergency services when every second counts.

One of the best parts of nights like this is learning from each other and strengthening the relationships between agencies before real incidents happen.

Thanks again to Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) for taking the time to share your knowledge with our members πŸ‘
