Our volunteers for Tuesday English (some missing) and our students today, our topic was Talking about Family (thanks Susan Boyer, author of Understanding Spoken English). We’re also reading rhyming children’s books and writing our own rhymes throughout Term 2, some great contributions thus far

Happy New Year to all!
Letting you know we will be starting English classes again on Tuesday 3rd February 10 am - 11.30 am at our CMC.
Our theme for Term 1 will be Australian citizenship and an introduction to Australian culture and values. Each lesson will be shaped to learn the language around the theme. I hope we can also have some local Australians come and chat to us who have made Cooma their home. You will also have the opportunity to do some research of your own and present it to the class.
Our first lesson on the 4th February will be an informal opportunity to get to know each other and the volunteer tutors and see how good you are at Australian 🇦🇺 trivia!
The lesson is most suitable for intermediate speakers but all levels are welcome. If you’re new to our town don’t let your English level stop you from coming along to try it out and get to know us- your new community!

We’re going to be exploring this theme over our next two lessons at CMC English classes, mostly speaking and listening skills will be involved, join in if you’re keen to practice your English skills Tuesday 10 am at Cooma Multicultural Centre

We are beginning a series of lessons combining the topic of culture shock (what you feel when you come to a new country) with writing skills ( how to write sentences, build paragraphs, write emails etc). I’ll also be introducing a writing project for those students who would like to meet with a volunteer tutor one-on-one ( outside of the usual Tuesday morning class) and work on writing a letter about their experience of living in Australia.
See you at 10 am this Tuesday. I’ll start the lesson by 10.15 am as there is a lot to discuss so come on time! These lessons are especially useful for those with intermediate to advanced skills in English but even if you are a beginner the opportunity to sit, listen and learn is always valuable and you are very welcome!

From struggling with English to hosting the SBS Learn English podcast, Josipa Kosanovic shares the challenges of adapting to a new language, embracing her accent, and finding confidence through everyday habits like talking to herself and singing.

English lessons start again Tuesday 11th February 10-11.30 am. Our theme this term will be health, both physical and mental, and we’ll shape our learning around listening, speaking, reading and researching health providers in our local community.
Everyone who would like to learn English is welcome- there is no cost as this is a service provided by volunteers but a small donation to the CMC is always appreciated and helps provide materials ( paper, pens, printers, etc).
The level is aimed at intermediate but beginners are always welcome and we can connect you with some smaller beginner classes if there is sufficient interest.
