๐Ÿšจ Have Your Say Before Itโ€™s Too Late!

The proposed Coochin Creek Outdoor Exhibition & Festival development would transform 150 hectares of rural land into a massive event site hosting:
โœ… Up to 6 major events per year, each up to 6 days long (plus weeks of activity shipping everything in and out before and after each event)
โœ… 35,000 patrons per day, camping for 15,000+, thousands of vehicles
โœ… Located next to Pumicestone Passage, Ramsar wetlands & national park

Why this matters:
โŒ Threatens sensitive ecosystems & wildlife
โŒ Conflicts with planning protections & community values
โŒ Creates bushfire, flooding & traffic risks
โŒ Weak economic caseโ€”State Assessment & Referral Agency (SARA) recommended REFUSAL

โš ๏ธ Ministerial Call-In Alert:
This application was โ€œcalled inโ€ by the Deputy Premier & Planning Minister.

SIGN THIS PETITION If you oppose the proposed Ministerial Call-in of two development applications for large-scale intensive and impactful developments at 1807 and 1641 Roys Road, Coochin Creek, Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

These sites are located next to the ecologically significant Pumicestone Passage, a Ramsar-listed wetland of international importance. The area is home to sensitive ecosystems and lies adjacent to National Park and State Forest. They are also inside the Northern Inter Urban Break (NIUB) greenbelt.

Despite there being no overriding public interest, the proposed developments are being considered for Ministerial Call-in, overriding the Sunshine Coast Councilโ€™s (SC Council) and the State Planning Departmentโ€™s State Assessment Referral Agencyโ€™s (SARA) ongoing assessment.

Any thoughts?

We believe this may be a reasonable position for Mayor Wilkie to take given the resources available to him in a small council provided he does respond quickly to telephone calls and emails.

It has certainly been the experience of OSCAR's communications with him.

Thereโ€™s been some interest in Mayor Rosanna turning off comments on her FB page.

Comments on my personal FB page have also been turned off since February.

FB is a great way to share information, but I also found I did not have the time to responsibly monitor, moderate or respond to social media comments, given other formal work obligations.

As many of you know, Page admins are seen as the publishers of FB pages and liable for any defamatory or hateful comments.

My FB page contains my email and phone contact details if anyone would like to communicate directly and receive a response or meet face to face

This change has allowed me the freedom to share more frequently with the community.

Commentators remain free to post on the Noosa Council FB page which is moderated by dedicated council communications staff.

They do a great job responding where appropriate and filtering out defamatory and hateful material.

Commentators can continue to share my posts on their own or group pages and share thoughts there (or email or phone me direct).

Most people communicate formally via email or phone. These communications have priority. On top of meetings and other obligations, responding to these takes up most of the day.

I aim to respond within 24 hours but even meeting this target can be difficult some days due to the volume received, especially when key issues arise.

Residents can also use question time and 15-minute deputations at our formal council meetings to have their say. Few other councils offer both of these avenues for engagement.

Councillors also have regular โ€œcoffee chatโ€ meetings with community members and we take the council meetings to community halls with information forums, again something few other councils do.

Which is why Noosa Councillors remain among the most accessible in Australia.

The Sunshine Coast Regional Council has favoured Beerwah East, 5200 hectares of land between Steve Irwin Way, the Bruce Highway and Roys Road, as a future growth area.

But the Director-General of the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning has told the council it must remove an emerging community zone from the Beerwah East development area in its draft planning scheme and replace it with a rural zoning.

In a letter to the council, John Sosso stipulates the zoning amendment as one of a number of conditions of departmental approval for the councilโ€™s new draft planning scheme to move to the next phase of becoming reality.

The transition of a Sunshine Coast rural area into a long-term growth corridor has hit a speed bump after the state government stymied a council move to rezone it. The Sunshine Coast Council has favoured Beerwah East, 5200 hectares of land between Steve Irwin Way, the Bruce Highway and Roys Road, as...
