Cavalcade 2 Canberra

Cavalcade 2 Canberra WA Grandparents and supporters are on a quest. Cycling from Perth to Canberra to urge parliamentarians and voters to do all that they can to phase out gas.

For the sake of our children, our grandchildren and the planet they will inherit.

I loved hanging with WA Grandparents for Climate Action this week. They are joining the campaign to stop ANZ Australia funding a DIRTY GAS PIPELINE that would send fracked gas from the Beetaloo carbon bomb overseas👇🏽

🚨 URGENT CALL TO ACTION FOR BLACK COCKATOOS 🚨

The recent arrival of avian influenza in Australia has changed everything.

For more than 18 months, Kaarakin has been working towards securing a dedicated Black Cockatoo Hospital and expanded biosecurity facilities. What was once an important conservation project has now become an urgent necessity.

The reality is that this disease poses a significant threat to Western Australia's endangered black cockatoos. For the critically endangered Baudin's Black Cockatoo, the stakes could not be higher. We must act now to ensure we have the facilities, resources and disease response capability needed to protect these birds.

This is why we are calling for a $15 million investment in black cockatoo conservation infrastructure, including:

🦜 A dedicated Black Cockatoo Hospital
🦜 Biosecure quarantine and treatment facilities
🦜 Influenza-resistant aviaries
🦜 Enhanced rehabilitation and release infrastructure
🦜 Disease testing and monitoring capability
🦜 Access to avian influenza vaccines when available

How You Can Help

Please take a few minutes to write respectfully to the following Ministers and ask for their support:

📧 Hon. Matthew Swinbourn MLC
Support the immediate funding and construction of the Black Cockatoo Hospital.
[email protected]

📧 Senator Murray Watt
Support a $15 million investment in the hospital, additional facilities, biosecure aviaries and long-term conservation infrastructure.
[email protected]

📧 Hon. Julie Collins MP
Support access to avian influenza vaccines and approvals for Kaarakin to undertake testing and monitoring on-site.
[email protected]

We ask that all correspondence remains respectful, constructive and focused on protecting black cockatoos for future generations.

Donate Before 30 June

We also ask you to consider making a tax-deductible donation before the end of the financial year. Every dollar helps Kaarakin prepare for the challenges ahead and strengthens our ability to protect and care for black cockatoos when they need us most.

Kaarakin is Australia's only organisation solely dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, conservation and release of black cockatoos. As avian influenza reaches Australia, the need for dedicated facilities and disease preparedness has never been greater.

Every email matters. Every donation matters. Every supporter matters.

Please share this post widely and help us build the support needed to secure the future of Western Australia's black cockatoos.

Together, we can make sure these remarkable birds are still flying across our skies for generations to come.

LAST DAY to submit an objection to the proposal to build a giant data centre alongside a waterway & conservation category wetland. Anyone can make a submission and it takes just a couple of minutes using the resources on Trillion Trees Australia website: bit.ly/Save-Mandoon-Bilya Closes 5pm today!

The website details the many issues with this proposal, from its close proximity and towering presence over a primary school, it's generation of excessive heat in an already hot and dry climate, massive use of precious water resources, noise pollution, and impact on endangered wildlife through destruction of habitat and contamination of the wetland.
