Our QTAC & ATAR POP Session is happening NEXT WEEK!

Everyone is welcome — parents, students, carers, community members and anyone wanting to better understand the journey from Year 12 to university.

We’ll cover:

🎓 How ATAR & QTAC work
🔑 Different pathways into university, including alternative and “back door” pathways
📋 How applications work and what students need to know
💡 How parents and communities can support school leavers
🌱 Opportunities and pathways after Year 12

We’re also excited to have a JCU guest speaker joining us to provide extra insight into university pathways, applications and what students can expect when making the transition into higher education.

Whether you’re completely new to QTAC or just want to brush up on how it all works, come along, ask questions and get prepared!

📚 QTAC & ATAR: POP Session – Correct Date!

We’ve had a few questions about the date, so just a reminder that the correct date for our POP Session is Tuesday 8 September 2026, from 4pm–6pm. 🧡💙

Whether you’re a parent, community member, or simply want to understand QTAC, ATAR and pathways into university, you’re very welcome to join us!

While the session will have a particular focus on how parents and communities can support school leavers, there will be plenty of essential information for anyone wanting to better understand:

🎓 How the ATAR & QTAC systems work
🔑 Different pathways into university — including alternative and “back door” pathways
📋 How applications work and what students need to know
💡 How to support young people as they transition from school to further education
🌱 The different opportunities and pathways available after Year 12

🧪🍕 Think you've got what it takes to be Cape York's Science Trivia Champion?

Join us for the Cape York Science Showdown – Trivia Night as we celebrate National Science Week with an evening of fun, friendly competition and, of course, pizza!

📅 Date: Thursday, 20 August
🕕 Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
📍 Location: Country Universities Centre Cape York, 100 Charlotte Street, Cooktown
👥 Play solo or in a team of up to 4
🍕 Pizza supplied for all participants

The majority of the night will be general science pub trivia, so you don't need to be a scientist to join in! But if you're looking to put your knowledge to the ultimate test, our Centre Coordinator Teala has also put together a bonus round of challenging science questions covering health sciences, physics, chemistry and biology. 🎓 QTAC Applications Open Tomorrow – 5 August! 🎓

Planning to start university or TAFE? This is your reminder that QTAC applications open tomorrow, 5 August!

If you're applying to study in Queensland, it's important to know that some universities only accept applications through QTAC and do not accept direct applications. If you're thinking about studying, now is the perfect time to get prepared.

To help make the process easier, CUC Cape York will be hosting a QTAC Information Night for students, parents, mature-age learners, and anyone interested in studying. We'll cover everything you need to know, including:
📚 How to apply through QTAC
✅ How to accept an offer
📅 Key dates and deadlines
❓ Common questions and helpful tips..and much more!

What an incredible few days in Sydney! ✈️🚆

Our team – Anna, Rachel and Teala – had the privilege of attending the Study Hubs Australia Forum as part of the Study Hubs In Place (SHIP) program.

It was fantastic connecting with staff from Regional University Study Hubs and Country Universities Centre locations from across Australia, sharing ideas, learning from one another, and seeing the incredible impact being made in regional and remote communities.

Between catching trains, exploring a little of Sydney, and plenty of laughs along the way, we also came home with new knowledge, fresh ideas, and even more inspiration to continue creating opportunities for the Cooktown community.

A huge thank you to everyone who made the forum such a valuable experience. We can’t wait to put what we’ve learned into action.
