It was wonderful to be back at Shine On Wollumbin today after a week’s hiatus.
Some 50 of us gathered together, and little did we know until the wonderful Leonie arrived with her bee in tow that today was World Bee Day. And yes — bee as in buzz, not bidet! 🐝
In keeping with the B-inspired theme, we enjoyed a fabulous morning of songs including The Birds and the Bees, Bye Bye Love, Baby Face, Blowin’ in the Wind, Blue Suede Shoes, Big Spender, and many more. We also welcomed three new attendees today and discovered we had a table of Bruces - three of them!
We celebrated Leonie’s husband Peter, who recently won the Men’s Shed Billy Cart Race at Bangalow — a fantastic achievement!
Of course, no gathering would be complete without getting the blood pumping, so we all got up for the Hokey Pokey, with muscles moving and plenty of laughs as our bottoms went in and our bottoms went out — all in the spirit of the B theme, of course. 😝
It was lovely having Dede, Trish, Leonie, Phil, Rob and Ian up front leading us through songs from across the decades. The room was absolutely vibing.
A special welcome to Kath who popped in to see us after recovering from a recent hospital stay, and I have to say, she was looking fantastic. Her big smile said it all.
Thank you, as always, to Dave and his team at Condong Bowling Club for providing such a welcoming space for us each week, to JT’S Kitchen for baking our delicious scones, and to Jackie and volunteers who set up tables, organise name tags, and keep the wheels turning behind the scenes. We appreciate you all so much.
We now have a two-week break and will return on Wednesday 10 June.
When we return, Leonie won’t be with us every week as it will be show season — and did you know she is also an agricultural show judge? She certainly keeps busy! While she’ll now be joining us monthly rather than weekly, we want to sincerely thank Leonie for all she has contributed over the past 10 months. We love you, Leonie, and we are so grateful you’ll still be coming along.
So mark your calendars everyone — Tuesday 10 June — we’ll be back, and we can’t wait!
