Yesterday’s Line Dancing afternoon at the Comboyne War Hall was a great success, with more than 70 people attending and the Hall was full of energy from start to finish.

Allison Finlayson, supported by Emma Lattimore and Jade, led four hours of dancing, guiding participants through around 40 different songs and clearly explaining each of the steps. There seemed to be strong interest from dancers in holding another event, so watch this space in the next few months! Next time, we might suggest that everyone brings a plate of food to share and we will increase the size of the dance floor!

It was appreciated that Allison & the Sunday afternoon Line Dancers from the Comboyne Ex-Servicemen's & Citizens Club pitched in and stayed back to stack chairs & tables and thanks to Emma and Briony for helping out on Saturday morning to set up. With the majority of the Hall committee volunteers away, thousands of thanks to you!

Thank you to the many Comboyne cooks who contributed slices, cakes and scones. We would like to thank: Jane Evans for filling the hall with flowers and working in the kitchen, Kellie for preparing slices and sandwiches while managing her commitments at the Comboyne Farm Store, Mark Neuer who always just seems to know what needs to be done and happily does it in and out of the kitchen, Mel for helping in between dancing, John from Wauchope, who came into the kitchen and just started washing up! and Dilsad for managing the door plus Nola, Donna and Penny for their contributions over the weekend.

Even though the event wasn't about making money, it was for the Line Dancers to have FUN and for the HALL to be DANCED in, the afternoon delivered a strong financial result, raising almost $1000 through entry fees, lunch and raffles. Raffle winners were Bill (pictured with Allison) and Robyn Neuer.

THE COMBOYNE WAR MEMORIAL HALL committee & members would like to thank the Comboyne Show Committee for giving us the opportunity to run the Luncheon Pavilion at this year’s Show. We are delighted to share that we raised $6,663, after contributing 20% to the Show Committee. These funds will partially pay for this years Building & Volunteers Insurance.

We would also like to thank the volunteers who made sandwiches, toasties, Devonshire teas, salads & who tackled the never-ending washing up:
Christa Schubert, Sandra McMillan, Naureen Taylor, Ken Henry, Jackie Stait, Alice Duck, Amanda Gardner, Karen Gardner, Anne McMillan, Jenny & Gil Drury, Pim Alison & Simon Thoday, Bryce Hutchins, Joseph Edwards, Steve Sulis, Simon Padman and Jenny Atkins.
A special thank you to Marg Sipkes, who not only baked scones but also created the signage for both the Pavilion and the Coffee Kiosk.
Which brings us to the Coffee Kiosk. Mark Neuer suggested approaching Shaun and Christine Edwards from Peak Coffee for the loan of a coffee machine. Not only did they say YES, but they also arranged for Aiden Edwards to provide barista training, donated coffee beans and supplied additional beans at wholesale. We are so grateful for your generosity.
We also thank, Grace Gardner, Mel Morris and Astra who were ably supported by Tini Sharp, Olivia Finlayson, Ella Hurrell and Sandra McMillan.
A big thank you to Leonie from Comboyne Takeaway for kindly providing extra coffee cups and to Emily for sharing her coffee knowledge in the lead-up to the Show.

The full article is in today’s Circular with more acknowledgments & photos.

🌹In memory of Leonie Stevens, whose big smile and infectious laughter will be dearly missed, the Comboyne War Memorial Hall committee & members wish to donate $100 to the Museum.🌹

The below poem was found in Beryl Hurrell's box of history & working documents of the Comboyne War Memorial Hall over many years. Beryl kept it for a reason, so we thought you might like to read it too before the Show this weekend.

A sandwich up in Comboyne is worth two down in the town
So full of country flavour
They gives no cause to frown
And the Ladies here who serve them
Are sweet and full of joy
Their faces are all full of smiles
As their labours they employ.
Now in each of those nice sandwiches
There's a secret essence you can't see
Besides the delicious fillings
They are full of TLC.
So come up here to Comboyne
But to quell your hunger
No sandwiches do you bring.
Written by F Gorton, Wauchope.

If you would like to bake a cake or slice for the Show, please drop into the Luncheon Pavilion anytime Friday, from 8am Saturday and Sunday.
If you have flowers please bring them to the Luncheon Pavilion, Friday afternoon for Jenny Atkins to start arranging.

The 88th Comboyne Show promises a full weekend of rural tradition and family fun, officially opening at 11am on Saturday, 28 February by Mayor Adam Roberts. Show gates open at 9am and the dog show starts at 8am.

Joining the opening will be councillors and community representatives, along with The National Party State Member Michael Kemp, The National Party Federal Member Alison Penfold and Labor's Sue Baker, who will also host a stall on Saturday.

With so much happening, organisers recommend arriving early and fuelling up with a bacon and egg roll from the Comboyne Football Club, the mighty Tigers, alongside a coffee from the Kiosk. Morning tea might mean Devonshire tea in the Luncheon Pavilion, followed later by oysters and a tasting from award-winning local distillery Bush Bloom, based in Hannam Vale.

Inside the Pavilion, visitors can explore baking, produce, art and craft displays, including the ever-popular Men’s Chocolate Cake competition, which has gained a strong following since its debut last year. A new LEGO section joins the Craft display this year, opening the door to a new generation of exhibitors. There's classes in every section for juniors to participate.

A major feature this year is the appearance of the magnificent Highland Cattle. The oldest registered breed of cattle in the world. These iconic, long-haired animals offer a rare chance to see one of agriculture’s most recognisable heritage breeds up close. The Highland theme extends into hands-on activities for all ages, including a creative colouring competition and the “Hunt for the Highland Cows,” where families search for hidden toy cows around the grounds to reveal a secret message and win prizes. Continuing the bovine focus, the much-loved “Guess the Weight of Calfy” competition returns, giving visitors the chance to pat the enormous youngster, snap a selfie and test their estimation skills before the official weigh-in.

Across the weekend there will be sheep shearing demonstrations, sawmill displays and drone showcases. Those interested in farm equipment can speak with Wingham Farm Machinery and representatives from John Deere, while horse enthusiasts can visit Kerry Gibson of Love My Horse for gear and advice on the veranda of the Evacuation Building. Community and environmental groups will also be present, alongside Greyhound Rescue, offering information about adopting retired racing dogs.

Families are especially well catered for, with Troppo Bob, Old Macdonald’s Animal Nursery, face painting and the ever popular Reptile Solutions. The funfair will feature interactive games, a 22-metre obstacle course and the classic Laughing Clowns, plus all the treats that make a country show unforgettable - fairy floss, lollies, pizza and ice creams.

Before heading home, visitors can pick up produce from Bec & Pete, Comboyne's Grazed and Grown and continue the social spirit with a stop at the Comboyne Ex-Servicemen's & Citizens Club for a drink on the deck and a relaxed bistro meal.

With free entry for under 16's and $10 admission for adults, plus free on-site parking, this year’s Show offers an affordable day out packed with agriculture, entertainment and genuine country hospitality.
Check out the schedule on the website to enter the classes: www.comboyneshow.org

Thanks to the Show Committee, the Comboyne War Memorial Hall will be running the Luncheon Pavilion at the Show and after last year’s incredible community support, we’re excited to do it all again.

Donations of cakes and slices would be appreciated (just not the melting kind, please).

We also need people power!
Helpers are needed for Saturday & Sunday to:
* make sandwiches
* prepare Devonshire teas
* make salads
* cut cakes and fruit
and, most importantly, wash up

If you can spare a morning or an afternoon, it would make a big difference.

Any experienced or budding baristas out there? ☕
This is your chance to learn! Thanks to Peak Coffee, a coffee machine is being loaned for the weekend and a two hour training session will be provided by Peak Coffee at the ShowGround, the Thursday before the Show. We’re looking for helpers to staff the kiosk and keep the coffees flowing. Ideally we need eight people to work both days - a morning and afternoon shift.

If you’re able to help out in any way, please get in touch with any member of the Hall Committee:
Jenny Hurrell, Naomi Henry, Rosena McMillan, Wendy Duffy, Maureen Vallance, Nola Stumm, Mark Neuer, Steve Sulis, Dilsad Tolhurst, Donna Cronin, Jane Evans, Kellie McLaren and Penny Tideman.

Comboyne War Memorial Hall is community owned and home to the Comboyne Pre School.
