The 88th Comboyne Show promises a full weekend of rural tradition and family fun, officially opening at 11am on Saturday, 28 February by Mayor Adam Roberts. Show gates open at 9am and the dog show starts at 8am.
Joining the opening will be councillors and community representatives, along with The National Party State Member Michael Kemp, The National Party Federal Member Alison Penfold and Labor's Sue Baker, who will also host a stall on Saturday.
With so much happening, organisers recommend arriving early and fuelling up with a bacon and egg roll from the Comboyne Football Club, the mighty Tigers, alongside a coffee from the Kiosk. Morning tea might mean Devonshire tea in the Luncheon Pavilion, followed later by oysters and a tasting from award-winning local distillery Bush Bloom, based in Hannam Vale.
Inside the Pavilion, visitors can explore baking, produce, art and craft displays, including the ever-popular Men’s Chocolate Cake competition, which has gained a strong following since its debut last year. A new LEGO section joins the Craft display this year, opening the door to a new generation of exhibitors. There's classes in every section for juniors to participate.
A major feature this year is the appearance of the magnificent Highland Cattle. The oldest registered breed of cattle in the world. These iconic, long-haired animals offer a rare chance to see one of agriculture’s most recognisable heritage breeds up close. The Highland theme extends into hands-on activities for all ages, including a creative colouring competition and the “Hunt for the Highland Cows,” where families search for hidden toy cows around the grounds to reveal a secret message and win prizes. Continuing the bovine focus, the much-loved “Guess the Weight of Calfy” competition returns, giving visitors the chance to pat the enormous youngster, snap a selfie and test their estimation skills before the official weigh-in.
Across the weekend there will be sheep shearing demonstrations, sawmill displays and drone showcases. Those interested in farm equipment can speak with Wingham Farm Machinery and representatives from John Deere, while horse enthusiasts can visit Kerry Gibson of Love My Horse for gear and advice on the veranda of the Evacuation Building. Community and environmental groups will also be present, alongside Greyhound Rescue, offering information about adopting retired racing dogs.
Families are especially well catered for, with Troppo Bob, Old Macdonald’s Animal Nursery, face painting and the ever popular Reptile Solutions. The funfair will feature interactive games, a 22-metre obstacle course and the classic Laughing Clowns, plus all the treats that make a country show unforgettable - fairy floss, lollies, pizza and ice creams.
Before heading home, visitors can pick up produce from Bec & Pete, Comboyne's Grazed and Grown and continue the social spirit with a stop at the Comboyne Ex-Servicemen's & Citizens Club for a drink on the deck and a relaxed bistro meal.
With free entry for under 16's and $10 admission for adults, plus free on-site parking, this year’s Show offers an affordable day out packed with agriculture, entertainment and genuine country hospitality.
