Our little Mallee butterfly is a finalist in the 2026 ABC Australian Insect of the Year! 🦋

It has the best story. The Mallee Bronze Azure has no food plant. Its caterpillars trick Sugar Ants into raising them underground… and eat the ant babies while they're at it. Diabolical? Yes. Worth your vote? Also yes!

We look after the largest known population at Raakajilm, on Latji Latji Country next to Hattah-Kulkyne National Park. Floods in 2022, then a bushfire in 2026, this butterfly needs all the friends it can get. Could be the only threatened species that can be helped by weeing in the bush!
