Save Moulting Lagoon Plea - Call to Action to appeal the following to Glamorgan Spring Bay Council. We only have a short timeframe!!
Moulting Lagoon is one of 10 RAMSAR protected sites in Tasmania- this means it is identified as being wetlands of international importance. A development application has been submitted to Glamorgan/Spring Bay council to develop the adjacent property which touches the lagoon. The development plans are huge and we have strong concerns about this activity and how it could possibly be allowed so close to one of the most precious wetland areas in Tasmania.
Look at the development application https://gsbc.tas.gov.au/services-facilities/public-notices/ or via the Glamorgan/Spring Bay Council Website. This company seems to already be using greenwash and uses the Tasmanian brand for their profit. It appears to be a large developer group who seems to have no interest in the lagoon. In the application there is no environmental impact statements that have been provided, with very little interest being paid to the impact a development of this nature will have on the environmental values of the wetlands. This is purely a corporate activity.
Having such a large development within 20m of a significant wetland is, in our view, far too close! Particular attention needs to be paid to the fact that; there is no mention of how they will manage the impact from lighting, pesticides, sprays, noise, soil and water management. Read the Moulting Lagoon Management Plan 2003https://parks.tas.gov.au/Documents/moultinglagoonpdf.pdf for more information about why these wetlands need protecting. This site should be locked up for low impact not large commercial activities.
Help Us Make a Difference and lets unite everyone from the local community, environmental groups, people who gather food from the site and everyone who wants to see 'the lagoon' here for future generations.
