Vale Dr Robert ‘Bob’ Byrne OAM
Coleambally Rescue Squad extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Dr Bob Byrne, following his passing.
Dr Bob dedicated more than 50 years to caring for the people of the MIA and surrounding communities, including Coleambally, where he was a much-loved and respected figure.
Dr Bob’s connection to Coleambally holds particular significance. Following the tragic bus crash in 1975 that claimed the lives of three local schoolchildren, Dr Bob was among those who assisted during an event that deeply affected our community.
Dr Bob’s extraordinary contribution to rural healthcare was recognised with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). His service was also acknowledged in Federal Parliament in 2014, when Michael McCormack paid tribute to his decades of dedication to the people of the western Riverina.
His life’s work exemplified the spirit of service: caring for our community, supporting one another and being there when people needed him most.
On behalf of Coleambally Rescue Squad, we thank Dr Bob for his service to our community and extend our deepest sympathies to all who knew and loved him.
Rest peacefully, Dr Bob. Thank you for everything you gave to our community. You will be remembered with great respect.
