Little mistakes can have big consequences on the road.

Whether they’re walking, riding, scooting or driving for the first time, young people are some of our most vulnerable road users. Slow down around schools, crossings and busy local streets and expect the unexpected.

In Victoria, 52 pedestrians lost their lives on our roads in 2025, a timely reminder that the risk of death or serious injury rises rapidly when a vehicle is travelling above 30km/h.

A few simple things can help keep everyone safer:
🚸Slowdown in busy areas and around crossings.
🚸Double check before reversing or turning.
🚸Put the phone away and stay alert.
🚸Give young road users extra space and patience.

The little people in our community are counting on the big people to make safe choices. 💛

Today is National Walk Safely to School Day. The annual campaign encourages primary school children, parents, and carers to build healthy, active habits by walking safely to school together.

We are proud of our youngest volunteer who was reportedly super keen to join her school this week, getting up early and walking the 20 minutes (which included going past her school) to reach the meeting point before 8am. 😍👏

Congratulations to all our local schools, students and families who participated in this great initiative this week. 👏👏

Today being Walk Safely to School day is a perfect time to talk about PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

Did you know that children do not develop peripheral vision until around the age of 9 – this is just one reason why they are at an increased risk of injury as pedestrians.

Roads are designed with adults in mind, however children aren’t ‘little adults’. Child pedestrians are at an increased risk of injury because unlike adults, they are less developed physically (e.g. children have underdeveloped peripheral vision until age 9), cognitively (e.g. children are not as well equipped to tell where sounds are coming from) and in terms of their traffic experience.
