Get Fire Ready is here to help,
With tips from our volunteers to protect yourself!
They'll show you how to check your house and your land,
And make a fire plan, so you'll know where to stand.

Whether you're in a high-risk area or somewhere new,
There are plenty of things that you can do!
So come to the Cohuna Market and learn what to do,
Get Fire Ready — it's up to you!

🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♀️ A fantastic achievement for four of our members!

Today was a special day for four Cohuna CFA members who took part in the Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival.

Lieutenant Dye, Communications Officer Mathers and Firefighter Simms tackled the full marathon, while Firefighter Williamson took on the half marathon.

For Lieutenant Dye and Communications Officer Mathers, this marked their first marathon, while Firefighter Simms completed his second. Firefighter Williamson also achieved a significant milestone, completing her first half marathon today after taking on her first full marathon in Ballarat earlier this year.

While running may not be directly related to our core firefighting duties, the dedication, discipline and commitment required to prepare for an event like this are certainly worth recognising. As one sign in the crowd put it: “Run like you’ve left the oven on!”🔥

Congratulations to all four members on these outstanding achievements. Your hard work and commitment have paid off, and the entire brigade is incredibly proud of you all! 👏

👩‍🌾 Baling hay with too much moisture can cause serious problems once it’s stacked and stored.

🔥 Heat can build up inside the bale as moisture drives microbial activity.

🌡️ Internal temperatures can rise significantly without obvious signs on the outside.

💨 As heating continues, hay can become increasingly dry and combustible, potentially leading to spontaneous ignition.

🏠 A fire in stored hay can spread rapidly through a shed, threatening machinery, livestock, buildings and surrounding property.

⚠️ Never assume a bale is safe simply because there is no visible smoke or flame. Monitor newly stored hay for excessive heat, steam, unusual odours or signs of heating.
