🚨We Passed!!! 🚨
Every 3 years, all CFA rescue units are required to complete a scenario safely and effectively in under 30 minutes to maintain their accredication.
Last night, 5 of our members were required to relocate a vehicle and then remove a 'trapped driver', which they did successfully.
This is a great achievement by the brigade as it allows us to continue to offer rescue in and around our community.

🚨 If you see flashing lights, you MUST slow down to 40km/h when passing emergency, roadside or towing vehicles.

Help keep us safe, so we get home safely 👨‍🚒

🪵 It can happen so easily. You’re tired, it’s the middle of the night, you thought you shut the door.. 🔥

Don’t leave it to chance, check it once, check it twice. Minimise the risk. ☑️

Crews arrived to find the two-storey house well alight, with the incident a stark reminder to prioritise fireplace, chimney and flue safety over the colder months 🏠

Can you be seen?
As we all know, the last few days we have experienced heavy fog in and around Cohuna with a number of near-misses being reported.
Please remember when driving in low visibility to:
👍Turn on your lights - use your low beam as the bright light of high beams reflects off the moisture droplets creates glare; severely worsening your visibility,
👍Drive to a pace that matches the visibility,
👍Increase the distance you travel behind a vehicle,
👍Minimise distractions; you need maximum concentration,
👍Look carefully and often for other vehicles and or road uses, and
👍If visibility is too low, pull off to a safe place.

Please take care and drive to the conditions as all times.

For more information, please use the link to the RACV website for more safety tips.

When visibility drops, your driving risks rise. Learn how to drive safely in poor visibility conditions like rain, fog, snow and sun glare.

🚫🔥 Did you know open-air burning on residential properties smaller than 0.5 hectares is prohibited under Gannawarra’s Community Amenity Local Law?

This effectively means that most residential properties in town cannot legally conduct backyard burn-offs.

The only common exemptions are:

🔥 Cooking Fires (BBQ’s, pizza ovens etc.)
🔥 Properly constructed fireplaces or chimineas used for heating
🔥 Authorised hazard reduction or emergency activities

By complying with Gannawarra Shire Council Local Laws, you’re ensuring our emergency responders and resources are available for actual emergencies, not unnecessary ones.

👨‍🚒 We’re proud to serve our community by delivering meaningful and lasting impact to those around us.

If you see one of our volunteers out and about, give them a pat on the back. We don’t seek recognition, we just do what matters for our local communities.

Today we recognise those who's duty it is to run towards danger when others are told to leave.

On International Firefighter Day, we thank our incredible CFA members and all of those who protect communities in times of crisis and every day in between.

Your courage, commitment and care don't go unnoticed.
