This world CP day we are inviting the CPSN community to submit to be featured in our zine. This zine will be created by members of our OASIS group. Submissions are welcome from people aged 12 - 25 and can be about anything. You can also join the team creating the zine if you’d like!

Over the age of 25 and want to contribute? Submit something around the theme of your youth with disability.

Last month, our Mental Health First Aid trainers, Sharon and Anna, travelled from the city to Victoria’s French Island to deliver a two-day training course for local residents.

Away from teaching the course, it was also a unique opportunity for them to experience the island’s wonderful wildlife and scenery, slow down a little, and appreciate the natural beauty around them.

French Island is an isolated community, with no mains water or electricity and no medical services located on the island.
This makes access to mental health support and resources particularly important.

Our facilitator, Anna said:

“It was a challenging environment to facilitate in, but a thoroughly wonderful experience teaching the course to a concentrated group of people with little or no Mental Health First Aid services available locally. They now have more than 10% of residents with the knowledge, options and resources to help support people in their community while they wait to access professional help.”

Feedback from participants was equally positive, with the course described as “an informative and empowering opportunity” to build their own knowledge and confidence while also being better equipped to support others experiencing mental health challenges on the island.

World Mental Health Day falls on October 10, and this years’
theme is “Together we Thrive.”

Come and find us tomorrow (Tuesday 22nd) at the Whitehorse Disability Events Communty Expo from 10am-1pm at Nunawading Community Hub - 96-106 Springvale Rd, Nunawading.

CPSN is inviting Expressions of Interest from people interested in joining the CPSN Board.
Our Board provides strategic oversight of CPSN, monitors organisational performance and risk, and helps ensure we remain focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for the people we support and their families.

We are currently seeking Expressions of Interest for the following Board positions:
• Secretary
• Treasurer
• Two General Board Director positions

Board Directors are elected for a three-year term.

This Expression of Interest process is the first step in the nomination process. Following assessment of EOIs, successful applicants will be contacted and invited to submit a formal nomination for election to the Board.

Celebrating a valued partnership for the cerebral palsy community.

We were delighted to welcome representatives from the Cerebral Palsy Support Network (CPSN) to Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) for an update on the Victorian Cerebral Palsy Register (VCPR), which CPSN has proudly supported.

Established in 1987, the VCPR is one of the world's longest-running cerebral palsy registers. By collecting information about Victorians with cerebral palsy, it provides an invaluable resource for researchers working to better understand cerebral palsy and improve prevention, care and outcomes.

What makes this partnership so meaningful is our shared commitment to improving the lives of people with cerebral palsy and their families. While the VCPR provides a foundation for research, CPSN plays a vital role in supporting, connecting and advocating for people with cerebral palsy across Victoria. Founded by parents in 1995, CPSN provides disability services, information, resources and community programs that help people live with greater choice, independence and connection.

We greatly value CPSN's partnership and commitment to the cerebral palsy community. Thank you for helping ensure this important resource continues to contribute to research that benefits people with cerebral palsy and their families.
