Rotary Club of Cobram

Rotary Club of Cobram The Rotary Club of Cobram, Victoria, Australia, works towards supporting the local community by its fundraising efforts.

As part of Rotary International it also supports causes in many other countries especially during times of war or natural disasters. History of Rotary
The number 711 has a very special significance for Rotary. Room 711 of the old Unity Building, formerly located at 127 North Dearborn Street in Downtown Chicago, Illinois, USA, was the birthplace of Rotary. It was in that historic room, which was th

e office of engineer Gus Loehe, where Paul Harris first met with several friends to discuss his idea of a club for professionals and businessmen. It took extensive research and dedication by a few Chicago Rotarians to preserve the room and restore it to its 1905 authenticity. For years, Room 711 was preserved as a miniature Rotary museum by Rotarians belonged to and contributed annually to the Paul Harris 711 Club, which provided funds for leasing, maintenance, and preservation. In 1989, when the Unity Building was about to be torn down, members of the 711 Club carefully dismantled the landmark room and placed its contents in storage. There it stayed until 1994, when the re-created Room 711 found a permanent home at the RI World Headquarters in Evanston, where this piece of Rotary's heritage is preserved.

The Rotary Club of Cobram in partnership with the organisers of Just the Farmer welcome the opportunity of bringing to Cobram this award winning and widely acclaimed film.

Just A Farmer is an Australian feature film that follows a rural family after the loss of a loved one to su***de. Set against the backdrop of farming life, the story explores the hidden pressures faced by regional Australians, the silence, the stigma and the emotional weight carried behind closed doors.

Mental health in rural communities is often overlooked, and starting conversations can be tough.

Just A Farmer screenings aim to

• Raise awareness about farming life and mental health
• Break the silence and encourage open conversations
• Foster community support and remind people they’re not alone
• Inspire action toward a stronger, more connected future

By attending a screening, you’re helping to create meaningful change—one conversation at a time and take away a greater understanding of facing the pressures and challenges on those in a rural community.

Let’s bring communities together and make a difference.

Proudly it’s another year of supporting the RSL by providing a cuppa and opportunity to chat for attendees of the 10am ANZAC service at the civic centre. Rotarian Lindon Mellier laid the Rotary wreath. He is pictured here with his sister Jeanette who proudly wore their dad’s medals like so many others. It was inspiring to see our young citizens of the future so actively involved as it will be our next generation who will carry the spirit of the ANZACs forward. All gold coin donations go to the RSL

Rotary was proud to be there alongside many others supporting what was a well organised event sponsored by Sporties Barooga and other Cobram business’s (listed on flyer). There was fantastic music, a great selection of food stalls, and plenty of family carnival entertainment. Our Rotary President Bill Tom and the Cobram and district Pipe Band with vocalist Nicky Goldsworthy had us all rocking along to AC/DC ‘s rendition of A Long Way to the Top (if you want to rock n roll). Unfortunately attendance was much lower than expected, likely due to busy schedules and other events. This was a real shame for the organisers Rachel McKay, Jacki Mckean, Nicky Goldsworthy and a team of volunteers who put in considerable effort. A big thank to you all for bringing together such a wonderful community event.
