Each year on 15 June, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day highlights the importance of protecting the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of older people. It is a time for communities to come together to raise awareness of elder abuse and show their commitment to preventing it.

Elder abuse is a form of family violence that can occur when an older person is harmed, mistreated, or neglected by someone they know and trust. It may involve financial exploitation, psychological or emotional abuse, physical or sexual abuse, social isolation, or neglect.

If you are experiencing elder abuse, or are concerned that someone you know may be at risk, help is available. Contact the free Elder Abuse Helpline on 1300 368 821, Monday to Friday, between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm.
