Feeling very honoured to be a part of this important national conversation as a community volunteer who is working with a wonderful group of people on the Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund and other grassroots committees.

Many people are contributing to Cobargo's recovery -- these are my personal reflections derived from my lived experience of post-bushfire recovery.

Many generous Australians have contributed to the Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund. This group of young insurance professionals have found time as community volunteers themselves to raise funds for Cobargo's bushfire recovery and came to visit the village earlier this year to visit some of the projects. Very grateful to Vero Young Brokers, Suncorp and the National Insurance Brokers Association for their ongoing support of the fund and of the recovery work underway in the Cobargo district.

The 2021 Warren Tickle Memorial Award Program concluded with four thrilling days in and around Cobargo - a small community hit hard by devastating bushfires in late 2019 and again by floods the following year.

Cobargo lost some unique art in the 2019/2020 fires -- amongst the many losses was a stunning tapestry made by a well known local textile artist that used to hang in Bangles Gallery; several lifetimes of irreplaceable works by local painters, sculptors, potters and other artists; workshops, studios, kilns and amazingly creative gardens; much-loved musical instruments; folios, manuscripts and materials so necessary for creative inspiration and the act of making.
Since the fires, the Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund has used donated funds to support community groups and artists' collectives to help our artists get back on their feet and to use art to restore optimism and hope. One such project is "The Painted Poles of Cobargo" a village wide project by The Lazy Lizard Gallery and The Cobargo Creators Centre, involving many local artists, which will be launched on Saturday 6 August at 11am at the School of Arts Hall. We thank everyone who has donated to our fund to support these projects and to Taubmans Australia who have been with us since the start on this long journey to recovery.

The Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund Inc provided early seed funding and support to the Cobargo Bushfire Resilience Centre Inc. project and is very excited to see this partnership with the National Library of Australia getting underway. Great work Ronnie Ayliffe and Brian Ayliffe

Its with both excitement and pride that Cobargo Bushfire Resilience Centre can announce that the Badja Forest Rd Fire oral history project in partnership with the National Library of Australia is now LIVE
