Our April meeting was a quick catch up for the 5 members who could make it.
We discussed the upcoming 100 years of CWA - Cobar Branch which will be a lunchtime event in October.
Our cultural report was on having the Clarence Valley Orchestra in town and how amazing that exposure was. I have a small baby and she was entranced with the opera singer. And to have this right on our doorstep, especially with the cost of fuel.
Our agricultural report was focused on the upcoming Primary Product Competition where students from Kindergarten to yr 3 can enter a colouring in and students from yr 4 to yr 6 are encouraged to write a story from the point of view of a Glossy Black Cockatoo. Pop over to the Cobar Show Boucher (Main) Pavilion for the colouring in and more information.
We finished with judging some gorgeous flowers (and sharing some gardening tips and tricks) and some Anzac memorabilia. One piece that almost didnt make it, as it slipped out onto the road. And then was the lovely Apple Slice, thanks to Lillian Simpson and Scones, thanks to Colleen Boucher. Have you been watching the Scone tally at the Sydney Royal Easter?? One year, Im going to make it there to volunteer.

Our March meeting was a lovely catch up for the 6 members who could make it.

We discussed upcoming Cobar events as part of the cultural report with The Clarence Valley Orchestra coming to town a highlight. Along with the Senior Week Activities, if you are over 60, you should check them out. The dinner on Wednesday evening will have the sweetest wait-staff thanks to the Cobar Girl Guides.

We discussed donations and Public Speaking along with our 100 year celebrations. A busy year ahead.

Finishing off with 3 beautiful blooms to judge and 2 autumn items. And some beautiful scones thanks to Colleen Boucher .

Why not try our Apple Slice recipe from our little cookbook: Everything I know about cooking I learned from CWA. Shop online at: https://www.cwaofnsw.org.au/Web/Web/Shop/Featured.aspx

**Apple Slice recipe**

Base
125 g butter, softened
½ cup caster sugar
1 egg
1 ½ cups self-raising flour, sifted

Filling
4 medium apples
2 teaspoons lemon juice
½ cup caster sugar
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
½ teaspoon cinnamon

To make base, cream butter and sugar, then add egg. Fold in sifted flour. Press half the mixture into a small slice tin. Roll out second half ready to cover the filling.
To make filling, peel and core apples, slice and cook in ½ cup water and lemon juice until tender. Drain and mash roughly, then add sugar, cloves and cinnamon. While mixture is still hot, spoon over base. Cover with the second layer of pastry and bake in a moderate oven (160°C) for 25 minutes or until cooked.

One of more of the apples can be replaced with chokos.

February meeting was a lovely start to the year. With 8 members and 1 junior member in attendance.

Plans were discussed about the upcoming Far West Group meeting in March (the 14th in Warren) where the group challenge is the craft a plate with 4 foods on it. They cannot be made with papier-mâché , paper craft, clay or wood. So felting, sewing and crocheting were suggestions

The Glossy Black Cockatoo which is the animal of study was discussed and its favourite food wattle seed.

Public Speaking competition is being organised and a huge thanks to Jonathan Harvey at the Cobar Public School for being so supportive. One of the topics for discussion was "why is Kindness Important?" Which I would love to hear the thoughts on that.

Grace, one of the Junior members kept herself busy with finger knitted some blue wool into at least a 3m length, which she plans to turn into a blanket.

The meeting finished up with some lovely scones from Colleen Boucher and wonderful cinnamon cupcakes by Nalda Talbot.
