Cloncurry RSL Sub Branch was very honoured to have received the Cloncurry Shire Council 2024 Community Organisation of the year award at this years Australia Day awards Ceremony. 🇦🇺

“Cloncurry RSL Sub Branch stands as an integral part of the Cloncurry community, engaging and honouring the nations history.
Two notable initiatives spearheaded by the Cloncurry RSL Sub Branch are the Remembrance Day and Anzac Day services. These events serve to remember and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by veterans and military personnel.
The Cloncurry Sub Branches commitment to organising and facilitating these commemorative services, not only preserves the spirit of remembrance, but also fosters a sense of community and gratitude.

Another school visit today saw John Lee (President of Cloncurry Sub Branch), Bob Guteridge and Liz Robertson attend Cloncurry State School for their Remembrance Day Service, run by the students, which was wonderful and very respectful to our soldiers. We also viewed their artwork for “Draw to Remember”which was an absolute credit to all that participated.

Today, John Lee (President of Cloncurry Sub Branch), Bob Guteridge and Liz Robertson attended St Joseph’s School in Cloncurry to view the amazing work the kids did for Remembrance Day “Draw to Remember.”. What a wonderful and very moving display of artwork. Thanks to Sam Kelley (Principal) for getting the kids involved.

Beersheba !!!
A hundred years ago today
This saddle here was far away
on a thirsty horse
On desert sand
Under Henry Chauvels command

For 36 hours , no water ,
nightmarish
If the battle was lost
all the horses would perish

Out On foot in that desert ...
And with out a horse
Well there wasn’t an option
They’d take it of course

First mile of the charge
they were ordered to walk
Then trot for a bit
Then canter ,dont balk

When the first lot of horses
were hit by the shells
They galloped wide open
To Beersheba’s well’s

Straight into the Turkish machine guns they raced
But the Turks thought they’d dismount
And the guns were out paced
and into and over the trenches they rode em
what an honor it would be for us to have knowd em

was wounded quiet badly
There 20 more killed
And twenty more Sadley

who limped or were carried
on stretches by porters
But that didn’t matter
They had Beershebas waters

Sweet justice I’d say
In return for the wreck
Of the 900 light horse
Who were killed at the nek

But the Turks met their match
When combined with the waler
The boys from the bush
Who had come from Australia.

When I sit in this saddle
All the stories it tells
Of the boys of the light horse
Who took Beersheba ‘s Wells .


Today talk of the charge of Beersheba is sparse
But you can all go and shove Halloween up your arse !

Today we commemorate Korean Veterans’ Day.

July 27 marks the 70th anniversary of the Korean Armistice Agreement, which resulted in a ceasefire in 1953.

Of the 17,000 Australians that served in Korea, 340 never made it home.

A further 1,216 Australians were wounded and 29 became prisoners of war.

Many fought in the Battle of Kapyong, one of the most significant battles of the Korean War.

In honor of all the Australians who served in Korea, we ask that you pause for a minute in their honor today and give thanks for their sacrifice.
