Monday Murmerings

Gosh hasn't the year gone fast? Last month our members went on an excursion to Gatton and this month we are carrying on as usual, volunteering in the Genie Room at the Cleveland Library (9:30am-12:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 12:30pm-3:30pm on Saturdays).

Our Librarian is constantly looking for new resources to add to the wealth of books and online tools that we already have access to. Have you been in and seen what we have? It only takes a couple of minutes to pop in and see our wonderful GRAs, they have a vast amount of knowledge and experience to help guide you on your way to discovering more about your family.

Remember you might draw your family tree and do the research as you at the start, but really, you are the culmination of thousands of love stories.

Citing your evidence is important if you want to make sure you really do descend from nobility. Even if you are not royal by descent, you need to be able to prove that you are researching the correct family lines. After all, without the records to prove it, it is just fiction.

What records are needed? Certificates (even verified transcriptions help), for births, baptisms, deaths, marriages, divorces, censuses, trade qualifications and society memberships, immigration (shipping records), naturalisations .... and the list goes on.

Not sure how to access these? Have a chat with our GRAs today at 12:30pm whilst they are in the Genie Room at the Cleveland Library.

Are you coming to our meeting today? We have a guest speaker who is going to tell us about the 12 minutes that changed the history of the world. Can't imagine what that will be but it sounds intriguing.

Monday Murmerings

Another meeting with a fabulous Guest Speaker lined up for Wednesday 10th June, commencing at 12:15pm at the Donald Simpson Community Centre. Who will it be? Inspector Melissa Anderson from Queensland Police will be talking to us about the "12 minutes that changed the history of the world". Sounds intriguing. Visitors are most welcome to attend.

Our GRAs will be in the Genie Room on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings 9:30am-12:30pm as well as Saturday afternoon 12:30pm-3:30pm, ready to help you with your family history questions. They do like a mystery.

Yes the lottery might enhance your lifestyle, even increase your circle of friends and family 🫰🫰but finding that elusive ancestor would do me just fine.

So, I think I will pop in and talk to the GRAs in the Genie Room at the Cleveland Library this afternoon at 12:30pm and see if they can help me knock down that pesky brick wall.

Yep, that's what I need. Or maybe it is better that I pop into the Genie Room at the Cleveland Library at 9:30am today and ask the GRAs, they are a whole lot nicer and they don't want to bargain for your soul!

Monday Murmerings

This week our Writing Interest Group meets at the Cleveland Library in the Elder's Room at 1pm on Wednesday 27th May. What do they do there? Well, they learn tips and techniques for improving their writing styles and sometimes have guest speakers talking on specific topics.

Why you ask? Our members contribute articles and short stories to or quarterly newsletter (The Redland Researcher), some are writing the history of their families, others, poetry and write about things that interest them. They help each other improve their writing in a positive and enjoyable way. Why not pop in as visitors are welcome to attend one meeting without becoming a member.

Meanwhile our GRAs will be in the Genie Room on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings 9:30am-12:30pm as well as Saturday afternoon 12:30pm-3:30pm, ready to help you with your family history questions.
