NPAA is in the Geelong Advertiser again - and for good reason.

After two midwives were attacked in a Geelong hospital carpark, NPAA wrote directly to Barwon Health and the Victorian Health Minister—and set a deadline of today, June 19, for action.

A new security coordinator has been appointed. Our members pushed for that. But a job title doesn't es**rt you to your car at midnight. We'll keep the pressure on until the job is done.

Have you ever felt unsafe travelling to or from your workplace? Tell us what needs to change.

Weeks after two midwives were assaulted in a Geelong hospital carpark, Barwon Health has appointed a new security co-ordinator as pressure mounts over staff safety at its facilities.

Two midwives, both mothers, were assaulted and chased back to the hospital after a late-night shift. When we surveyed staff, every single respondent said they felt unsafe walking to their car.

The shocking part? Most of them had never even reported it — because they didn't believe anything would change.

We've written to Health Minister Harriet Shing and Barwon Health CEO Frances Diver demanding immediate action: 24/7 security es**rts, the return of the shuttle bus service, better-lit parking, upgraded CCTV, and a formal council parking partnership. We've given them 14 days to respond.

Healthcare workers keep our community safe. It's time someone kept them safe.

We want to hear from you — have you ever felt unsafe walking to or from your car during a shift? Tell us in the comments.

The president of the national nurses’ association is demanding “systemic action” over an attack on two Geelong Hospital midwives in a letter to Victorian Health Minister Harriet Shing and Barwon Health chief executive Frances Diver.

A retired paramedic spent 25 years walking nurses to their cars at Geelong Hospital because security wouldn't do it.

Let that sink in.

Now two midwives have been attacked in that same carpark. The shuttle bus is still gone. Security es**rts are still inadequate. And staff are still finding out about assaults from the media instead of their employer.

Barwon Health says safety is a "high priority." Their actions say otherwise.

What needs to happen before this gets fixed?

Nurses and a former paramedic are urging Barwon Health to bolster security and reinstate safety measures at Geelong hospital following a sickening attack on two midwives.

A pregnant nurse. A screwdriver at her throat. This is Victoria's healthcare system in 2026.

Monday night at Royal Melbourne Hospital. Friday night in Geelong, two midwives stalked through a car park after finishing their shift, chased when they tried to run. These are not isolated incidents. They are a pattern.

NPAA stands with every nurse and midwife who has been threatened, assaulted, or terrorised doing their job. Our members deserve more than a spokesperson statement.

They deserve a government and a health system that treats their safety as non-negotiable.

The community is asked to "respect" healthcare workers. Respect isn't enough. We need action.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital declared a code black emergency on Monday night after a patient threatened a pregnant nurse with a screwdriver.

Two Geelong midwives were chased through a carpark after a night shift last Friday.

The shuttle bus was axed. Security es**rts were unavailable. Staff weren't even told it happened. These have now been reinstated.

We want to know: have YOU ever felt unsafe walking to your car after a shift?

Drop a below or share your experience. Your voice matters — and it's exactly what we'll be taking to hospital management.
