Great Marlow Speckle Park

Great Marlow Speckle Park Location: Great Marlow NSW 2460 (4km from Grafton NSW 2460) When crossed with Black Angus bulls, these cows produced offspring with a speckled pattern.

Speckle Park is a truly Canadian breed developed from three British breeds: Teeswater Shorthorn, Aberdeen Angus, and a British white. Mary Lindsay began producing speckled cattle when she crossed a red roan cow and a bull with a white park pattern. These offspring were always speckled, and in 1959, Lindsay sold a heifer to Bill and Eillen Lamont of Saskatchewan, who began using speckled cows in th

eir herd. These offspring were successful beef cattle, and the next step was to develop this handful of cattle into a recognized breed. In 1985, representatives of nine herds gathered together to form the Speckle Park Breeders Association. Created with the intent to develop a new breed, this association was later renamed The Canadian Speckle Park Association. In 1993, the association was incorporated under the Canadian Animal Pedigree Act so a breed could be developed, and in 1995 the first bylaws were passed. Finally, in 2006, Canadian Speckle Park was granted full breed status. Speckle Park were introduced to Australia around 2007 and can be found in the hot tropical climates of Nth Qld, as far South as Tasmania and as far west as Western Australia. More information can be found on the Speckle Park International website (SPI)

Speckle Park is so named because of the colour pattern of the cattle. Speckled refers to the spots on the rear quarters and across the body, and park refers to the colour around the ears, eyes, muzzle, lower legs and teats. Except for the solid colour pattern, Speckle Park have white lines on their backs and underbellies. The classic speckle pattern contains more coloured spots around the hips and shoulders, with a generally black or black roan face. White with small black spots is characteristic of the leopard pattern. Classic speckle and leopard patterns are genetically the same, and result from the combination of the white park gene and the solid gene. The pattern of white with black points shows a mostly white animal with black around the ears, eyes, muzzle, lower legs and hooves, and is produced by the dominant gene. Solid coloured offspring also exist in Speckle Park herds. Speckle Park cattle may have red speckle patterns, as the recessive red gene may be seen in both parents.

Uniting The Herd For Jamie

It was great to see the Speckle Park community unite to support Jamie and his family. The generosity shown throughout the charity auction was incredible, with some elite Speckle Park genetics and outstanding sires donated for a very worthy cause. 👏❤️

A massive shout out to Ron Grant, a repeat supporter and buyer of Pagoda genetics.

There was a small hiccup with the online bidding system where it initially appeared Green Acer Speckle Park had secured the winning bid before the system refreshed and confirmed Ron Grant as the successful bidder.

To keep things positive and fair for everyone involved, another 10 straws of Minnamurra Pagoda (MPC P236) were donated so the underbidder could secure the same package, along with a bonus 2 straws for the winning bidder.

At the end of the day, everyone involved wanted Jamie to be the real winner. ❤️

GR8 U14 – Ready to go straight to work and make a difference in your herd.

Most of our bull calves become steers and go through our premium beef business, but every now and then one comes along that’s simply far too good to cut.

Those ones earn their place in the bull paddock — exactly the way it should be.

The really good Speckle Park bulls are genuine meat machines, with natural thickness, muscle, weight and performance… and this fella ticks those boxes.

Why Speckle Park?

Greg Ebbeck gives a great insight into why he brought the breed to Australia.

After decades breeding Herefords, Greg saw the potential of Speckle Park cattle through their incredible carcass performance, eating quality, efficiency and doing ability. He believed the breed offered something genuinely different to Australian beef producers — not just eye appeal, but serious performance where it counts… under the hide.

Greg was amongst the first to import Speckle Park embryos and semen into Australia and played a major role in establishing the breed here through Six Star Speckle Park. The breed quickly gained attention for its tenderness, marbling, dressing percentages and commercial profitability.

Well here’s a first for us at Great Marlow Speckle Park — turning some of our Speckle Park silverside into homemade Biltong.

After an overnight marinade, it’s now into a slow 72 hour conversion at 25°C in the new Bench Foods dehydrator.

One thing we’ve learnt is quality in equals quality out. Starting with premium Speckle Park beef certainly gives you a head start.

Be interesting to see the finished product…

Update 22/5/26: sold out….

With our regular 1/4 body donation to Donovan Livestock & Property to Auction at the July races for the Little Windmills: The Country Kids Charity, we’re almost sold out for July.

Next availability will be late August.

A few weeks ago we were posting about just how tough and dry things had become. Since then, the weather has finally turned and we’ve been lucky enough to receive a beautiful couple of weeks of soaking rain across our area.

With the rye grass and oats planted, the country is already starting to freshen up, although the weaners in the cattle yards aren’t overly impressed with all the mud.

Behind the scenes we’ve been flat out getting cattle away to the abattoirs and delivering our premium Speckle Park beef out to customers across NSW and Queensland. It’s been fantastic hearing the feedback coming back in. We’ve had quite a few new customers come across from some of the larger online meat suppliers and the common response has been just how much better the eating quality, flavour and consistency is.

As a small family farm focused on paddock-to-plate beef production, we take a lot of pride in producing locally grown premium beef with genuine MSA eating quality.

We haven’t advertised a great deal lately simply because we’ve been inundated with orders. While we continue to ramp up supply, we also have to work around our off-farm commitments and processing availability.

To all our followers and customers — thank you for the ongoing support.

At this stage both May and June allocations are completely sold out. We are now taking pre-orders for early July delivery, so if you’ve been wanting to try our premium Speckle Park beef, please reach out early so you don’t miss out.

Oh, and we don’t use AI or filters to enhance our photos

A huge congratulations to (MHS) Maclean High School for their efforts at our recent local shows.

With our cows in between calving and most of our bulls out working, throw in a couple of cows with new calves at foot, not quite ready, add a severe drought to the equation - we were limited in what we could exhibit this year.

What’s truly impressive about school agricultural programs is seeing new students introduced to the cattle industry - Maclean High School Agriculture and Cattle Show Team

A big shout out to young Nash Schrader, working with us 3 days a week in 2026, who made a last-minute decision to compete in his age section in the junior paraders and walked away with the blue ribbon.

One of our home-bred bulls also secured a red ribbon before going on to claim Reserve Champion in the Euro British breeds.

Congratulations to everyone who put in the time and effort to support local shows, youth, and agriculture.
