Well the knockout matches for the remaining Claremont players were played this morning and unfortunately the results did not go our way.

The Women’s Fours saw Tayah Dolliver and her Glenorchy Rodman team mates, Joy, Michelle & Denise take on a team from QLD and unfortunately fall short 9/20. Congratulations Tayah, Joy, Michelle & Denise making your way into the knockout stages .. well done.

The Men's Pairs saw Jordan Croft & Dean Shaw take on a combined SA/QLD pair in their Round 2 knockout. Jordy & Dean's opponents jumped out to an early lead. The boys dug deep and closed the deficit levelling the scores at 16/16. While down a couple shots, Jordan played a lovely weighted shot to hold 1 shot but was then sat out to drop a 4. Tight last 2 ends saw the boys go down 17/21. Terrific effort boys, hold your heads high.

Congratulations to Dean Shaw, Jordan Croft, Robert Shaw, Gordon Brown , Paul Grover, Nick Evans & Tayah Dolliver.

It's no small feat to enter a competition of this magnitude play and perform well against the best bowlers in Aus and indeed the world. The experience gained is massive. You are a credit to yourselves and our club.

Well Done !

The Australian Open Ladies Fours sectional play was conducted today. A young lady from our club, Tayah Dolliver was a member of the team that included Denise Price, Michelle Moate & Joy Voss from Glenorchy Rodmans.

The Ladies started well with a 10 shot win in their 1st match 17/7. There 2nd match didn't give the Ladies the result they were looking for, going down by 9 shots 9/18. There 3rd match the Ladies put on a dominant display of bowls winning 26/3.

Two wins, one loss and +24 shots was enough to earn the Ladies entry into the Fours Knockouts.

Congratulations Tayah, Joy, Michelle & Denise. Good luck in your knockout that will be played at Broadbeach Bowls Club on Monday 14th at 9am. Incidentally Tayah will be playing her Knockout match at the same time as her partner and Claremont player Jordan Croft in the Mens Open Pairs with Deano at Paradise Point Bowls Club.

At the Australian Open the Men's Open Fours sectional play started today. We had Jordan Croft, Dean Shaw, Nick Evans & Paul Grover representing our club.

The boys unfortunately lost their 1st match 11/15 and by all reports the opposition got some VERY handy luck which was not shared. That's Bowls !

The 2nd game saw the boys get themselves a 7 shot win 13/6 and rounded out the 3rd match with a 9 shot win 19/10. These competitions are very tightly contested and unfortunately the guys were unable to win their section and weren't lucky enough to receive a Lucky Loser progression into the knockouts.

Well done gents on your efforts. Hold your heads high 👍

Day 4 of the Australian Open competition is the 3rd day of the Men's Open Singles Section. Rob Shaw jumped in at the Coolangatta Bowls Club.

In a Section of 3 bowlers, because 1 of the players in the Section clearly preferred the beach to Bowls and didn't turn up. Rob jumped to an early lead but Rob's opponent then found his mojo, reduced the deficit and then gained a lead of his own. Rob clawed the lead back but fell short in the end 18/21.

In the 2nd game Rob played well but was outclassed by his experiened opponent who played some terrific draw shots.

Didn't make it to the knockouts but you have done yourself and our club proud.

Rob & Gordon Brown will at it again tomorrow at the Gold Coast Bowls Club as a team in the Mens Open Pairs.

Day 2 of AO Competition saw the start of the Sectional play for the Open Singles. Dean Shaw again took to the greens at Southport Bowls Club. Despite bowling very well the results didn't go his way.

In the 1st game Dean was defeated by his opponent 19/21. In the 2nd game Dean had a solid & convincing win 21/7. In the 3rd game that had the scenario, whoever won would progress to the knockouts, Dean again went down in another epic 19/21.

Losing 2 epic last bowl type scenarios and a large win was very well done. Dean will be back in action on Tuesday with Jordan Croft in the Open Pairs.

Tomorrow will see Gordon Brown take to the greens in the 2nd day of Open Singles Sections.
