Arrow Foundation

Arrow Foundation At Arrow, our target is clear. Current research focuses on a newly discovered “gene switch” that regulates cell death in cancer.

We aim to provide personalised support, healthcare training and research funding to help every Australian enduring tough but lifesaving bone marrow and stem cell transplants. Since Arrow’s conception in 1987, medical research has paved the way to major advances in the diagnosis and treatment of leukaemia and a variety of non-malignant diseases treatable by bone marrow and stem cell therapies. Alth

ough a growing number of Australians are receiving bone marrow and stem cell transplants – the good news is that mortality rates are falling largely due to advances in medical research and improved patient care. Advancing medical research
Arrow provides funding for a research scientist within the Blood Stem Cell and Cancer Research Unit at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney. Supporting our future scientists
Through our scholarship program, Arrow provides financial assistance to PhD students from all over Australia to assist with their leukaemia and stem cell research projects. Scholarships for registered nurses
Each year, Arrow offers nursing scholarships to registered nurses employed in the field of blood and marrow transplantation and paediatric oncology. Arrow is committed to giving nurses the opportunity to advance their education through scholarships in the following specialty areas: Chemotherapy and other Systemic Treatments in Cancer Care; Blood & Marrow Transplantation; Haematology Nursing; Paediatric Oncology Nursing. Education and patient support

Wigs for cancer patients
Hair loss is often one of the most emotionally distressing side effects of chemotherapy. Arrow’s Tracey Scone Wig Library offers cancer and transplant patients the opportunity to borrow a wig completely free of charge for the duration of treatment. Help with the cost of travel
Travelling to and from hospital for ongoing tests and consultations can be financially challenging, particularly for patients who live far away. Arrow offers financial assistance to patients, carers and bone marrow donors experiencing difficulties meeting the cost of travel for transplant and post transplant treatment. A place to stay
With the financial support of the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic and the family and friends of Katherine Robertson, Arrow fully funded the refurbishment of Arrow House, a home away from home for patients undergoing treatment, and their families. Arrow House is located in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Transplant information for patients and carers
Arrow supports patients and carers by sponsoring patient information seminars and comprehensive guides on the transplant process. These give patients considering a transplant the opportunity to make informed decisions and learn about the transplant process.

💛 "I think I'm dying, Mum."

Those four words sent Vicki racing from America back to Australia to be by her son Jamie's side — and she hasn't left since.

Jamie was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukaemia in December 2024. What followed has been one of the hardest journeys a mother and son could face together. But through it all, Vicki has held on to humour, love, painted pictures of hope, and the unshakeable belief that Jamie will cross the finish line.

"Now is your time to run — and as hard as you have ever done before, son. RUN."

This is their story. And it's one worth reading. 💛

🎗️ World Blood Cancer Day 🎗️

At the Arrow Foundation, supporting those affected by blood cancer is at the heart of everything we do.

Today, we stand with patients, families, and loved ones — recognising the challenges they face and the strength they show every day.

We are committed to raising awareness, providing support, and ensuring that no one has to go through this journey alone.

Your stories, your resilience, and your courage continue to drive our mission forward. 💛

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Nikhil Autar - a remarkable young man whose courage and compassion touched so many lives.
Nikhil was a stem cell transplant recipient and a powerful advocate for patients. He generously shared his journey as one of our very first speakers on Transplant Talk Live, offering hope and inspiration to others navigating life after transplant.
Despite facing his own health challenges, Nikhil dedicated his life to helping others.
We are grateful to have known Nikhil and to have shared in his story. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those whose lives he changed.

Nikhil Autar, who was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was 17 years old, was named NSW Young Australian of the Year in 2024.

Last night was truly special.

We had the privilege of hosting an intimate gathering to officially launch our Friends of Arrow regular giving community—and what an evening it was. 💛

Some of our most dedicated long-term supporters came together for one simple reason: their love for Arrow. Seeing this community come to life in the same room was nothing short of magical.

Arrow Foundation receives no government funding — which makes the generosity and commitment of our Friends of Arrow so incredibly powerful. Their consistent support is what keeps us going, every single day.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who attended. 🙏

And for our wider community—this is just the beginning. We’ll be opening Friends of Arrow to all of our wonderful supporters very soon, and we can’t wait to share more. 🎉
