With some very welcome light rain falling this morning, members of the Chiltern Landcare Group were hard at work at the Chiltern Goods Shed planting 100 plants across nine different species, to provide beautification as well as habitat for our local native wildlife.

The plants included some uncommon Acacias and Rhagodias, as well as Grevilleas, Callistemons, Melaleucas and more.

In a few months we will be back for further plantings which will be done in conjunction with the local primary schools as an educational activity.

Today the Chiltern Landcare Group was out in force, removing woody weeds along Black Dog Creek. Have a look at the example before-and-after photos here to see the difference it is making. We will continue removing weeds like Briar Roses, Blackberry, figs, Ash species and numerous Prunus species before revegetating with indigenous shrubs later in the year.

This week the Chiltern Landcare Group began work on our latest project - removing all the horrible woody weeds along Black Dog Creek.
We started at Dillons Bridge on Mackay Street. It’s a small start but it’s already noticeably better, with much more to come over future months. We will also be helping to reduce the rabbit harbour with this work.
If this is something that interests you, please feel free to contact us to join in. The more hands the better!

Today the Chiltern Landcare Group were back at Suffolk Street Reserve. We planted around 30 locally indigenous but uncommon plants, including a couple of different Acacias, Snowy Mint Bush, Flat-Leaf Bush Pea and others, including the area recently burned by the CFA. We then attacked the very overgrown grassy areas and removed a lot of Scotch Thistle. It all looks much better but much more needs to be done. If you’d like to help us, membership for an individual or household is only $20 per year. Contact us to join us!

On Thursday September 18, Chiltern Landcare Group hosted a public session on Designing a Habitat garden at St Joseph’s Primary School, where we also launched the new native garden there. Sue Brunskill was guest speaker, and around 40 people attended. It was a marvellous event.
