The right language matters. Without it, neurodivergent experiences can be misunderstood as “laziness” or “overreacting”, when in reality, they reflect valid differences in how people think, feel and process the world. 🧠

In this body+soul article, Aspect's Ainslie Robinson and Dr Fiona Aldridge help unpack common neurodiversity terms - from emotional dysregulation to sensory processing differences - and why understanding them is key to better support and connection.

How much mental effort does planning and organising take at work?

Our Autism Friendly Employment team are developing a new guide on managing planning and organising at work. We want it to reflect people's real experiences at work, so we're asking Autistic people to share what this looks like for them.

To ensure the guide is practical, and grounded in lived experience, we are seeking input from Autistic professionals and job seekers.

We are interested in understanding:
• What takes the most effort?
• What are your strengths?
•What do you find challenging?
•What strategies help?
• What workplaces could better understand

Your insights will help shape a practical resource that supports both individuals and organisations to create more inclusive workplaces.

Not every journey to pride follows a straight path. Sometimes it looks like questioning, learning, growing and finding new ways to appreciate yourself along the way.

For Autistic Pride Month, Tania K reflects on her own journey of self-discovery, sharing a thoughtful perspective on pride, challenges and the progress that happens in between. 👉https://www.aspect.org.au/blog/pride-in-progress

After an incredible career with Aspect, we’re saying a heartfelt farewell to Ruth from our South Coast School as she begins a well-earned retirement 💜

Since 2008, Ruth has brought kindness, dedication and positivity to every classroom, making a lasting difference for so many students and colleagues. At Aspect, our schools often feel like a family - and Ruth has been such a valued part of that.

Ruth, you’ll be deeply missed. It was so special to come together as a team to celebrate and farewell you . Thanks Aspect South Coast school community for a lovely send-off! ✨

Aspect has been selected to lead a new national initiative under the Australian Government’s National Autism Strategy 2025–31.

Funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, the Improving Social Connections initiative aims to help Autistic people, families and carers feel more connected, supported and included in their communities.

The program will support peer-led connection opportunities across Australia and will be co-designed with Autistic people in partnership with .

Today only! Donate to our Tax appeal and your donation will be DOUBLED*

A generous donor is matching every gift meaning, your kind gift:
💛 Can help twice as many children like Freddie access the support they need.
🏫 Can help fund more school placements for Autistic children from disadvantaged families
🌏 Can help develop more accessible, inclusive environments in our communities, so Autistic children can truly thrive

But be quick, once the matching funds are gone, they’re gone. Don’t miss your chance to make twice the difference for children like Freddie.

As we wrap up Walk for Autism 2026, it’s clear it’s been an extraordinary month. 💚

Together, a record-breaking 9,161 walkers and 1,011 teams across Australia took an incredible 657,930,199 steps and raised a phenomenal $1,038,835 🎉

Behind every step, donation and shared story was a community of passionate supporters who made this impact possible. Every step you took, every dollar you raised, and every conversation you started has made a real difference.

THANK YOU for walking for the 70% of Autistic people who experience mental health challenges. Because of you, awareness has grown, conversations have opened, and support is reaching further than ever before.

These funds will go directly towards delivering vital services and creating autism-friendly communities across Australia - places where Autistic people feel welcomed, understood, and supported to live their best lives.

💛 “I see it every day.”

Will you help Autistic children learn in ways that work for them?

I’m Freddie’s teacher, and every day I’m reminded that the right learning environment can change everything.

Before coming to our school, Freddie had no interest in holding a pen. If you gave him a pencil, he’d hand it straight back.

Then one afternoon, his family found him at a whiteboard - completely focused. Drawing characters from Numberblocks. From memory. The right colours. The right order. Even writing numbers above their heads ✨

This didn’t come from forcing Freddie to learn differently.

It came from meeting him where he is.

At Aspect, we believe Autistic children don’t need to change to fit a standard system. They need environments that understand them.

Unfortunately, there aren’t enough of these classrooms for the children who need them.

👇 Your donation today can help create learning environments where Autistic children are supported to thrive.

Planning for life after school starts with exploring possibilities. ✨

Recently, Aspect Hunter School hosted its annual Post-School Life Expo, bringing together students, families and local organisations to explore pathways into employment, further education, work experience and community supports.

With more than 20 organisations in attendance, students had the opportunity to ask questions, discover new opportunities and start building confidence about their future.

A big thank you to all the exhibitors, visitors and our fantastic Central Coast School coffee van for helping make the day such a success. ❤️
